What is the minimum Brendan Rodgers must achieve next season?
May 28, 2014
Expectation in football is a funny, fickle thing. Arguably, there exists no club at which the pressure is greater than Liverpool. The history, prestige and success at Anfield is almost unrivalled, and the desire to regain domination is unique. However, the Reds do not have a reputation as a particularly expectant club – at least not in the way that the likes of Tottenham Hotspur or West Ham United do!
Last season wasn’t a complete surprise, but it was a pleasant one. Brendan Rogers steered Liverpool to an eventual second place in the league and a comfortable return to Champion’s League qualification. The SAS partnership of Sturridge and Suarez was the best front-line in the league by a distance, and the exciting English talent on show on Merseyside was keeping supporters smiling.
