Burrell looks set for another 4-year term as JFF president

BY all indications, Captain Horace Burrell looks set to return unopposed as president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) for another four-year term.

As this newspaper prepared for press last night, just hours ahead of yesterday's midnight deadline for nominations, there was no foreseen challenge as Burrell and his election slate were said to have received unanimous support from 12 of the 13 parish associations.

Yes Captain, juck dem wid the training centre! juck dem wid the coaches' certification!

You always wonder how people mount criticism on those in positions of leadership. However, no one seem to have the balls to step to the plate and make a difference. It is all about the back bench mentality where those are the ones with the loudest voice.

How will the establishment of the proposed club franchise system be structured?

Who will be the owners/grantor - JFF or PLCA or some new entity?
...and will those owning right to club franchise be the present NPL clubs?

...and in the light of promotions and regulations what is the top to bottom structure - a franchise system running through to Intra-Parish competitions or an alternate method? ...and at the very bottom how does one lose right to continue as franchise holder? ...and indeed purchase/become a franchise holder?

Burrell vowed that in due course the benefits of this new direction will be realised by all.

"What I know is that the vast majority of us believe that going the franchise route is best for our football and our footballers... it will ensure in part better facilities and much better salaries," he told the Observer
So a franchise holder if a *present NPL Club, shall immediately become financially viable? ...or have financial standing that results in commitment of funds to "...ensure in part better facilities and much better salaries," from first day of operation?

      I wonder...

      Would love to hear more?

*We know each is a pauperized entity!!!
      Cannot afford top quality facility!

Cannot afford to pay each of their players a living wage! ...perhaps better said would be: pays their players starvation wages?

Each surviving through wish and a prayer!!!

Not just as Jawge says, but as your old school says.

You understand the backbench analogy though? Those are the folks who criticize the most, but will never step to the fore to make a difference.

Don't really like the unopposed thing. Burrell and others see challenge as a bad thing. Wish him all the best still and hope he does better in this term.

Fully agree with you...hence as you should recall my unwavering support for The Good Captain from '19 how long'. (...and gratitude for and to "Jack" Warner).

One day Karl you will realise that JW was first and foremost an opportunist... I will not take away from him the fact that he organised these small islands to get in the game; that was an opportunity he saw and made the most of it; the fact that INEVITABLY a spin-off benefit to new member countries would have to have occurred was okay because of that very inevitability... BUT , let's not put on pedestals people whose character, when scrutinised, can be found wanting.

I am disappointed that Burrell is unopposed simply because that does not (generally) bode well for the (football in this case) constituency, as the incumbent is likely to not feel any pressure to do anything other than the same old , same old. Where is Jamaican football today????

Competition is healthy ergo lack of it.....
We will not be in Brazil, and preparation was woeful.
Besides, the parish councils are beholding to the Captain, that discourages competition.
Are there objectives in place for the president of the JFF to achieve?
                          If so,was he successful?
We have had our fair share of after the fact appointnents, one after the other with the same results.

I hear you, Peter. ...and I understand.
I know exactly who "Jack" is. ...and our Jamaica football administrative and technical knowledge shortcomings. I gave from 1968 to 1990 working in close contact with the powerbrokers...and since that time I have kept my ears to the ground.
