Hamburg's 50-year run in the Bundesliga has been extended for at least one week. Hamburg held 16th place and a place in the relegation playoff despite losing 3-2 at Mainz. The other two teams at the bottom, Nuremburg and Eintracht Braunschweig, both lost.
Hamburg will play either Greuther Furth or Paderborn of Bundesliga 2 in the playoff.
At the top, the usual suspects- Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Schalke advanced to the second round of the Champions League. Bayer Leverkusen will be in the qualifiers.
Wolfsburg advanced to the Europa League. Borussia Moenchengladbach and Mains will be in the qualifiers.
