Sad to say, with Bayern Munich having wrapped up the Bundesliga championship an eternity ago, the biggest story line in the Bundesliga comes from the bottom of the table.
Hamburg, in 16th place with 27 points, is in danger of being relegated for the first time since 1963, when the Bundesliga was formed. Nuremburg has 26, and Braunschweig has 25. The 16th place team goes to a relegation playoff against Greuther Furth or Paderborn of Bundesliga 2 next week. The 17th and 18th place teams are automatically relegated.
Hamburg has erected a scoreboard on the facade of the upper deck counting how long the team has been in the big time, ticking off the years, months, days, minutes, and seconds.
