CONCACAF president says Gold Cup could move outside the USA

Could the CONCACAF Gold Cup be headed off of US soil?

It certainly appears that way after comments made by Jeffrey Webb on Friday in Mexico, where the CONCACAF president told media that he’s interested in spreading the biennial tournament around the region.

The United States has played at least a co-host role for every edition of the tournament since its inception in 1991, including serving as the outright host each of the past five tournaments. The US and Mexico co-hosted the games 2003 and 1993.

    Good move
THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Wrong move, will you be willing to fly to Juárez to see the boyz?

Well, we are not flying to Kansas City or Colombus to see the Boyz either, so what difference does it make?

On a more serious note, only Mexico and Canada I think can provide the facilities and crowd support to make playing this competition in other countries financially worthwhile. I am also not too sure about how much support games that do not include Mexico would get. I guess CONCACAF would have to look into that.

I do not see Jamaica, Trinidad, Honduras or Costa Rica hosting this competition that would be financially viable for CONCACAF. I understand it is not fair for the US to host the competition all the time, but I also know why it is done.

Costa Rica and Panama are probably quite viable. I am sure they have enough 20K stadiums to do the trick...maybe a joint hosting between the two of them could work.

Jamaicans only support winners, and when the team is not winning there is not much attendance. Costa Ricans, Salvadoreans & Hondurans support their team in droves. Jamaica does not have a long tradition of success in football, unlike track & field.

I did not look at Costa Rica and Panama as viable as I am not sure teams playing which did not including their national teams would get the support. In the US, you know you have such diversity on nationalities, that teams could attract their nationals to games.

It is something worth exploring however, as the US should not have a monopoly on hosting the ccompetition if others can.
