  • Man United gets Hargreaves

    Bayern confirm sale of Hargreaves

Hargreaves is expected to sign a four-year deal with Man Utd

Bayern Munich have agreed to sell Owen Hargreaves to Manchester United.
Club president Franz Beckenbauer told German TV: "Owen is leaving. That was the player's wish. It's a good match and it's also a good deal financially."
Beckenbauer said the transfer fee was "around" £17m - which would be a record for a Bundesliga player.
Hargreaves, 26, has been at Bayern for 10 years but after starring for England at the World Cup last year, he admitted he wanted to play in the Premiership.

Considering the money Chelsea paid for Makelele and the fact Hargreaves is younger - a very good buy for Man Utd

United quickly moved to open negotiations with Bayern and made offers in the summer transfer window and in January but the German club refused to sell - until now.
Hargreaves, who played only nine league games for Bayern this season because of injury, is expected to sign a four-year deal with the newly-crowned Premiership champions.
His career in Germany ended in disappointment when Bayern finished fourth in the Bundesliga, thereby missing out on Champions League qualification.
Writing in his column for the BBC Sport website, Hargreaves admitted the club "can never afford not to qualify for the Champions League".
His transfer is therefore likely to be the first stage of an overhaul at the club, with chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge promising to carry out "brutal and ruthless" changes to the team.
Rummenigge said he was disappointed to be losing the energetic midfielder.
He told the club's website: "A player like Owen Hargreaves would have looked good in our team next year. "In the defensive midfield position Owen is one of the best in the world - it's a big sporting loss for us." Sunday's newspaper reports suggested Bayern could use the funds from Hargreaves' sale to buy Chelsea winger Arjen Robben.

Man Utd consider bid for Gordon

Hearts could want £10m for Craig Gordon

Manchester United are considering an £8m summer transfer bid for Hearts and Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon, BBC Sport understands.
And Aston Villa could be pondering a move, with boss Martin O'Neill watching from the stands during Sunday's last SPL game of the season at Kilmarnock.
The 24-year-old has been Hearts captain since the controversial departure of Steven Pressley to Celtic in December.
Hearts assistant Stephen Frail on Friday valued the goalkeeper at £10m.
English Premiership sides failed to match Hearts' asking price in January, while Gordon rejected a move to Spartak Moscow the following month.
The goalkeeper, capped 14 times for Scotland, has previously been linked with both Arsenal and Fulham.
Gordon had joined Pressley and Paul Hartley in going public about dressing-room unrest as a result of owner Vladimir Romanov's policies at Tynecastle earlier in the season.
Martin O'Neill was an interested observer at Rugby Park

Both Pressley and Hartley have since been moved on to Celtic, leaving question marks about Gordon's long-term future.
Gordon emotionally threw his goalkeeping gloves and captain's armband to the Hearts support after the 1-0 defeat at Rugby Park.
But he stressed to BBC Sport that it was not an indication that it was his final game for the Edinburgh club.
Gordon said he expected to be a Hearts player next season.
He refused a more in-depth interview, saying he did not wish to say anything in the heat of the moment that might lead to a suspension for the start of next season.
Gordon had been left incensed at the penalty awarded to Kilmarnock's Steven Naismith after a challenge by the goalkeeper. The Scotland international insisted that there had been no contact with the striker, who went on to score from the penalty spot and secure victory for the Ayrshire side. It is believed that Villa boss O'Neill was also checking out the form of Scotland Under-21 international Naismith.
Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.
