Liverpool v Man City: Unsung hero Fernandinho can be key for City
In his regular BBC Sport tactics column, Robbie Savage looks at Sunday's top-of-the-table match between Liverpool and Manchester City.

Both teams are attack-minded and high-scoring with exciting forward players, and both have weaknesses in defence, despite City's recent improvement at the back.

So the battle for control of the game in midfield will be vital at Anfield, particularly how each team tries to protect their back four.

Brendan Rodgers draws on rich heritage to prepare for glorious future

The past has been a very dark place for Liverpool.

From the Greek chorus of legends on the front row of the directors’ box to the raw memory of glory days lost, this red shirt “weighs much heavier than any other shirt,” was how Brendan Rodgers put it on the day he was first presented as Liverpool manager nearly two years ago. His was a more eloquent form of expression than the one Gérard Houllier found when declaring, as he departed in 2004, that “there are some here who want to go back to the Seventies and Eighties. Fine. Not with me.”

Match Preview - 'pool V City

      MATCH PREVIEW
As if it isn't always, Anfield will be a very special place to be on Sunday. Two days before the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough, all present - red and blue - will pay their respects as only the football family can to 96 members of our family who will never be forgotten.

Then, at seven minutes after the originally scheduled kick-off time - a fabulous countrywide gesture this weekend - a game worthy of the highest emotions will start.

In the stands and on the field it will be full of passion and could be pivotal, but with a month of the season to go we can't call it decisive. Especially not with Chelsea going to Anfield next.
