Having one striker challenging for the Barclays Premier League golden boot is decent, having two indicates careful preparation to attacking football.
When Brendan Rodgers brought Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool 13 months ago there was an intention to engineer a productive partnership with Luis Suarez, to unite a duo with twin creative and finishing abilities.
Whether the Liverpool manager envisioned such a remarkable return in purely statistical terms is, though, doubtful. Suarez and Sturridge lead the list of the league’s deadliest, with 23 and 18 goals respectively. Not even in the days of English football’s original SAS were such tallies accumulated at this stage of a season.

Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton ended Blackburn’s title-winning season of 1994-95 with 34 and 15 goals each – a combined total of 49 that looks well within range for the Liverpool pair with 11 games to go.
Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole, a double act of fearsome understanding for Manchester United, scored 18 and 17 goals in the Treble season of 1998-99.
Only Chelsea in 2009-10 have been lucky enough to field two players reaching 20 goals in a 38-match campaign. Didier Drogba scored 29, while Frank Lampard got 22. They won the title.
What is even more impressive is that both Suarez and Sturridge have missed large chunks of this season with through suspension and injury.

Now, both fully fit and free of bans, they are in startling form. By finding the net against Swansea, Sturridge has become only the second player to score in eight consecutive Premier League games. Ruud van Nistelrooy holds the record with 10, set in 2003.
Both Sturridge and Suarez feature in a table for Europe’s best, too.
Sturridge is behind only Sergio Aguero for minutes per goal in the continent’s top five leagues.
He scores once every 83 minutes compared to the Argentine’s ratio of one in 80 minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo has 22 goals for Real Madrid at a rate of one every 84 minutes. A Suarez goal comes once every 86 minutes.
For club and country both are in Europe’s top 10, mixing it with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Lionel Messi.
It all means that Liverpool have taken over Manchester City’s claim to be England’s entertainers. They have 70 Premier League goals, one ahead of the team from down the East Lancs Road.
