FIFA vice-president and CONCACAF boss, Austin 'Jack' Warner says he wants retired national captain Dwight Yorke to play in the upcoming Digicel Shield and the Gold Cup.
Warner made this disclosure at the launch of the Digicel Shield four-team tournament at the Crowne Plaza hotel recently.
A special adviser to the Trinidad & Tobago Football Federation, Warner noted that CONCACAF would be celebrating the former Aston Villa, Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham and Sunderland striker at this year's CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States from June 6 to 24 and that he was hopeful of getting Yorke to play at the tournament.
Honoured
"At the weekend CONCACAF Congress in Toronto it was agreed that T&T's World Cup captain Dwight Yorke will be honoured at the upcoming Gold Cup and as such he is expected to join the senior team for the tournament," Warner said.
He said he was still awaiting word from Yorke on whether he would accept the invitation to play with the national team. The upcoming Digicel Shield will be contested against Caribbean Football Union champions Haiti along with Cuba and Mexico on May 28 and 30.
"I have sent out an e-mail already to him (Yorke) and I'm just awaiting a reply on whether he will be available to play or not," Warner said.
The 35-year-old Yorke retired from international football after leading T&T to its first ever World Cup appearance in Germany last year.
Warner, meanwhile, also made it clear that players who have taken legal action against the T&T Football Federation over reward money from the team's participation at the World Cup Finals in Germany, would not be considered for the team, describing them as being extra greedy.
In their absence, Warner said he did not expect the team to suffer and looked at the situation as a chance for the younger players to seize the opportunity.
