    Warner wants Yorke

FIFA vice-president and CONCACAF boss, Austin 'Jack' Warner says he wants retired national captain Dwight Yorke to play in the upcoming Digicel Shield and the Gold Cup.

Warner made this disclosure at the launch of the Digicel Shield four-team tournament at the Crowne Plaza hotel recently.

A special adviser to the Trinidad & Tobago Football Federation, Warner noted that CONCACAF would be celebrating the former Aston Villa, Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham and Sunderland striker at this year's CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States from June 6 to 24 and that he was hopeful of getting Yorke to play at the tournament.

    Honoured
"At the weekend CONCACAF Congress in Toronto it was agreed that T&T's World Cup captain Dwight Yorke will be honoured at the upcoming Gold Cup and as such he is expected to join the senior team for the tournament," Warner said.

He said he was still awaiting word from Yorke on whether he would accept the invitation to play with the national team. The upcoming Digicel Shield will be contested against Caribbean Football Union champions Haiti along with Cuba and Mexico on May 28 and 30.

"I have sent out an e-mail already to him (Yorke) and I'm just awaiting a reply on whether he will be available to play or not," Warner said.
The 35-year-old Yorke retired from international football after leading T&T to its first ever World Cup appearance in Germany last year.

Warner, meanwhile, also made it clear that players who have taken legal action against the T&T Football Federation over reward money from the team's participation at the World Cup Finals in Germany, would not be considered for the team, describing them as being extra greedy.
In their absence, Warner said he did not expect the team to suffer and looked at the situation as a chance for the younger players to seize the opportunity.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Warner sends out invitation to Yorke

Digicel Shield comes off at month-end

    Tuesday, May 15th 2007

CONCACAF president: Jack Warner Trinidad and Tobago's senior footballers will warm up for next month's CONCACAF Gold Cup with two international matches at the Hasely Crawford Stadium with the staging of the inaugural Digicel Shield.
The senior teams of fellow Gold Cup participants Cuba and Haiti and the national Olympic squad of Mexico will contest the semi-finals at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on May 28.
The games are being hosted by Digicel as part of their one-year anniversary in T&T, as announced at the launch yesterday at the Crowne Plaza, Port of Spain.
In the opening game, the Mexicans will tackle Cuba from 5 p.m. and then T&T's Soca Warriors will battle Haiti in a repeat of the 2007 Digicel Cup final.
The losers will meet in the third place playoff at 5 p.m. on May 30 at the same venue, with the other two teams contesting the final from 7 p.m.

CONCACAF president Jack Warner also announced at last weekend's CONCACAF Congress in Toronto, Canada that it was agreed that T&T's World Cup captain Dwight Yorke will be honoured at the Gold Cup and he is expected to join the senior team for the tournament.
Warner added that an invitation went out from him to Yorke on Sunday, requesting his services for the Digicel Shield and the Gold Cup.
Warner added that the Digicel Shield gives competing countries some much needed international experience.
"I want to compliment Digicel because once again they have responded to the call. They are going the distance in furthering the development of football and the support they have shown throughout the last two years has been countless. Digicel have funded the development of youth football throughout the Caribbean and have always been in there whenever I have had to make a request for support to ensure football is progressing in the Caribbean," Warner added.
Ă‚ Digicel CEO Kevin White also agreed to assist Warner in the payment of salaries to the T&T national coaches for the past two months.
"After the successful series of Digicel international matches held during the FIFA window in March, the Digicel Shield offers further opportunity for national teams from both regions to ensure they are successfully prepared to represent their region as well as possible," White stated.
T&T head coach Wim Rijsbergen, while listening to Warner's assurance that the national team will be as best supported as possible, even if without some of their World Cup players, expressed gratitude for the upcoming matches, which include a friendly international away to Honduras prior to the team's arrival in the USA for the Gold Cup.
But he made it known he still would be a happier man if he has the best players at his disposal.
"The Digicel Shield is the perfect warm-up for us before the hugely-important Gold Cup in June and the whole team is looking forward to putting in a first class performance on home turf. Digicel's support of the Soca Warriors has been phenomenal over the last year, with the Digicel Caribbean Cup and now the Digicel Shield," Rijsbergen added.
Red, White and Black is what I represent..

      Warner is a madman!
      More legal actions needed?
FIFA does things arbitrarily and Jack is one of its high ranking members.
It has to be troubling for all.
