Nemanja Vidic will leave Manchester United at the end of the season after confirming his decision to “move on” this summer.
Vidic’s decision to pursue a move elsewhere is likely to signal the break-up of Sir Alex Ferguson’s final great team at Old Trafford, with Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra expected to be told by manager David Moyes that they can leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of the season.
Vidic, United’s captain since the beginning of the 2010-11 campaign, favours a move to Italy, with Inter Milan favourites to secure the Serbian centre-half’s signature after offering him a two-year deal worth £50,000-a-week.
Serie A champions Juventus and French club Monaco are also pursuing the 32-year-old, with Galatasaray another club to have shown a long-term interest in the player.
Vidic insists that he will not seek a move to another Premier League club after eight years at United, which have seen the defender win all major honours with the exception of the FA Cup and Europa League.
