Jamaicans back from Refresher Course with FIFA certificates

    Saturday, May 12, 2007

Through the efforts of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), three Jamaican football administrators travelled to the new home of FIFA in Switzerland where they participated in a Refresher Course from March 26-30, 2007.

They were JFF Referees Commission Chairman Charles Barrett, along with Horace Lewis, a past president of the JFRA, as well as former FIFA Referee Ainsley Sharpe.

Sixteen Instructors from 10 countries completed the course conducted by FIFA Instructors Sandra Hunt and Esse Baharmast, both of USA.

This followed upon their participation in a previous Futuro III Course for Caribbean Instructors held in the Bahamas in 2004, then conducted by Sandra Hunt, assisted by FIFA Instructor Sonia Denoncourt of Canada.

The main focus of this course was to prepare the participants to train new instructors in their respective countries in conducting courses and seminars for new and practising referees. Hence, the emphasis was placed upon methodology in the delivery of course content (Laws of the Game) and practical drills. All three Jamaicans demonstrated their experience, and were among those who were appointed as group captains and mentors for practical sessions.

Having now received their FIFA Certificates at this level, they will continue to conduct local courses and programmes regionally whenever required.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
