  • The rise of Ronaldo! What's the difference?

    http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/25719657

When we read through this article it becomes clear that we have no clue how to step to the next level in identifying the right players that can maximize their potential, I posted another article on the rise of Ronaldo and the role of goal setting, measuring performance and consistently trying to close the gap between the two and improve performance continuously, this is what it takes. It also means selecting guys who are mentally tough, test well on cognitive, peripheral vision, dexterity, emotional intelligence challenges.

Guys who can stand to the rigor and deal with Saharan sand or Norwegian powder!!

Funny thing is none of these things cost a lot of money, just strong process and good paid personnel to execute consistently.

Each season, his manager, mentor and the man the 28-year-old still refers to as 'boss', Sir Alex Ferguson, would agree a pre-season wager over a target number of goals for the campaign. At the end of each of his first two seasons at the club, targets of 10 and 15 goals proved beyond him.
He wasn't fazed. The sight of Ronaldo strapping weights to his ankles and perfecting step-overs long after his team-mates had headed for the showers became a common sight at Carrington.

What is also true is that Ronaldo is among the exceptionally rare and driven individuals, who don't come a dime a dozen.

Yes, but we need to be able to identify them and not stifle them too early. Our selection process wastes a lot of talent as it operates very much like Jamaica operates, who is touting who and who is affiliated with who. Thank god track and field is based on measurement as the final determinant, and even that we try to mess it up.
