In the modern game where fitness, speed and agility are crucial assets in a professional player, it seems unlikely that those lacking pace could make it to the very top.
However, there are a healthy sprinkling of slow footballers in Europe's top leagues, whose skill, physicality and intelligence on the ball compensate for their lack of speed.
