i didn't see any mouthing off there...so is the rule that you can do it if it's not a team you used to play for?

don't know if it is a rule BUT you can best believe it would be much more inciteful doing it to a club you used to playe for. the fans would definitely feel more disrespected.

The fact is Adebayor left Arsenal on bad terms and he was carrying baggage. I'm sure that by now you would have noticed that players who leave a team on good terms, have very subdued, if any kind of celebration when scoring on their old team. In Ade's case he made a point of sprinting a hundred yards to do his "dance" in front of the Arsenal fans... a clearly premeditated act of provocation.
I don't know the full facts in Walcott's case but he was being carted off the field and it appeared that he reacted to the crowd; it could be argued that the crowd is who incited him. I'm open to correction here as I don't know the build up etc. to his 2-0 sign.Peter R

IMO Ade's goal celebration was calculated and premeditated (why him run de whole length a de fiel fi trow himself a groun in front a de opposition fans?), while it appears to me that Walcott reacted to a situation, albeit inadvisably.Peter R

he scored a goal...he is entitled to celebrate...he didn't dance...he didn't gesture to the crowd...he ran to his side of the field and slid on his knees...nothing else matters...his career was ruined by the FA because he celebrated a goal...simple...
