Luis Suarez Arsenal transfer news
Luis Suarez’s release clause stands at a whopping £130million for clubs playing in the Premier League.
That’s the revelation following news of the new deal Suarez signed last week for Liverpool. Under the terms of the contract Suarez will receive an immediate pay rise of some 33 percent from £120,000 a week to £160,000 a week. That will be followed by an increase to £200,000 a week from the start of next season and will make Suarez one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League.
However, it is the size of the release clause that really catches the eye. Overseas clubs will have to pay £100million in order to prise Suarez away from Anfield but that figure rises to an eye-watering £130million should any Premier League side comes calling.
The size of the release clause pretty much rules out any move away from Anfield for the Uruguayan. However, it also removes any ambiguity over the existence of any such clause. Arsenal bid £40,000,001 during the summer in the belief Suarez would be able to leave Anfield. But the existence of the clause in his old contract only gave Liverpool the opportunity to reject any such bid.
The new contract removes any doubts over what it would take for Suarez to leave Liverpool. Real Madrid could possibly afford £100million, but the cash pot at the Bernabeu has been severely depleted by the signing of Gareth Bale this summer.
