Didn't see an article at the link, he normally gets himself into god scoring positions and miss most of them. Can he improve? Maybe, still think better quality stiker is needed to lead the attack.

'He needs to be the last off the training field' - Moyes urges Welbeck to work harder in pursuit of goals

      17 Dec 2013 22:30
Danny Welbeck must train harder if he is to increase his goal tally, according to United boss David Moyes

AMONG THE GOALS: Welbeck netted twice against Aston Villa

David Moyes has told Danny Welbeck to put in the extra training ground graft to become a regular hitman - and the Mancunian has picked up the gauntlet thrown down by the United boss.
Moyes has told the 23-year-old Longsight-born striker that he must take a leaf out of Wayne Rooney’s book and make sure he clocks up more minutes at the Reds' Carrington complex.
When Moyes blows the whistle on his official training sessions he expects Old Trafford academy product Welbeck to stick around on the pitch and work on his goalscoring.
Those extra practise routines have already proved fruitful with Welbeck’s return to scoring form at Aston Villa last Sunday when he netted twice in the champions' 3-0 win.
It took his total for the campaign to five, having scored twice on the opening day at Swansea City and in Ukraine in the Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk.
But Welbeck still trails both Rooney and Robin van Persie by five goals.
And Moyes said: “Danny needs to score more goals.
“We had a word with him about a month ago and we said that he needs to be the last off the training field.

“Wayne Rooney is out there practising his finishing every day. Whether it be taking free kicks, shooting from tight angles, bending them in, whatever it may be, Wayne is practising and I told Danny that he needs to be out there practising every day even if it is just 15 minutes every day.
“He did take heed. He is out there now. If you remember the goal he got at Villa on the right and the chance he just pulled past the post, I thought, well here you go put your practise into operation.”
United’s training-ground work ethic has been legendary with all the superstars no matter their status going the extra mile.
So was Moyes surprised he had to give Welbeck a nudge in the right direction?
“A little bit, yes,” he said. “I think the young boys here are educated to keep improving and practice, but sometimes you can, without knowing, slip away from that.
“So we just said, every day, give yourself and extra 10-15 minutes at the end of every session and practice all different types of finishing, inside the box, outside the box, heading and let’s see if we can get more goals from you.”
Welbeck has had to play second fiddle to the Rooney-RVP ticket put together at the start of last season by Sir Alex Ferguson and to accommodate him the former United boss did employ him a lot as a wide striker.
He has been used in that role for England as well but his eight goals in 20 international matches ratio is almost double his club figures of 24 strikes in 116 appearances stats.
“Danny plays off the left for England as a wide striker and when he plays those roles he is great at getting in the box and it gives you a feeling of having an extra forward. He is a really good worker for the team,” said Moyes.
“But I think if you asked Danny he would say he is a striker. What gets you a game as a striker? Goals. Whether you score them from inside the box or outside the box, from distance or tap-ins, if you want to be a striker in the Premier League and especially at a club like United you have to be a goalscorer.
“There are lots of strikers who offer other parts of the game, and Danny does offer other parts as well, but he stood up for us when we were without Robin and he scored two and probably should have had a hat trick at Villa.
“Is he a goalscorer? What I will say is that everybody told me he had only scored two last season but this year he has scored five. So that is a positive start for him.
“All round Danny has a lot of attributes and he just needs to say I am going to have to take this onto another level. We are trying to get him to do that.
“He needs to show a level of consistency now. As a centre forward you need the games, but you also need to show the reason you are going to get another game is that you keep scoring.
“I think he needs to say ‘this is what I do and this is what I have to do regularly’.
“We challenged them a bit on Sunday, told them to stand up a bit and I thought Danny rose to the challenge and took the bait.
“I think he said, ‘ok, I’ll show you’ and that was good for him and good for the team.”
Welbeck has been a regular for England under Roy Hodgson and Moyes believes he will be on the plane for Brazil next June for the World Cup.
“The World Cup is an incentive for a lot of players,” he said. “There are a lot of good young England players just below the surface who are looking at being the next generation of England players.
“Those with 10-15 caps are being asked by people are you going to be the next Wayne Rooney, Steve Gerrard, Frank Lampard, who are going to get 100 caps. I think he will definitely go to the World Cup.”

But if he improves you may not want to sell him. Could be effective coming of the bench.

IF HE IMPROVES!!!! The 2 goals he scored, even though dem count didn't change my attitude towards him. If he had scored that one that went past the post, then I would have ... . Chances will be missed, I accept that ... but Danny isn't the clinical striker I hoped he would become. Right now the other trainee that is with Cardiff seems to be a better finisher than Wellbeck.

Lets see if the extra time on the training ground will help him.

What I like and respect DM for is his straightforward honesty. He doesn't talk in parables like the other managers. Sometimes that can lead to his own demise, like when he basically said that Rooney was the supporting striker to RVP. Anybody can improve with hard work and the right attitude. A perfect example is Ronaldo. Danny Welbeck needs a lot of practice. The opportunity to cement his place is now in his own hands. If he continues to score more goals between now and when RVP gets back fit, it would be very hard for DM to drop him- plain and straight.
Hey .. look at the bright side .... at least you're not a Liverpool fan! - Lazie 2/24/10 Paul Marin -19 is one thing, 20 is a whole other matter. It gets even worse if they win the UCL. *groan*. 05/18/2011.MU fans naah cough, but all a unuh a vomit?-Lazie 1/11/2015

Thanks. Personally I would normally practice my own shooting in my time too. It also tells Welback if he wants to stay with United what to do.

There is no need for distinction in the fielding of two strikers, that was a case of Moyes saying unnecessary things to the detriment of thr team. When the substitutes(Welbeck and especially Hernadez)are fielded, are they supporting strikers to RvP?
The goals that are missing for Welbeck are the ones he scored while on loan.
