U17 MNT rides goals from Garza, McLoughlin, to clinch CONCACAF Tournament Title
In the end it came down perhaps as much to grit as style, but the U17 Men’s National Team defeated Costa Rica 2-1 here Sunday night to win the CONCACAF Qualifying Tournament for the FIFA U17 World Cup.
First half goals from Ellis McLoughlin and Gregory Garza proved enough for the Americans as the team hung on after a fantastic goal from Costa Rica’s Marcos Urena at the 60th minute.
This tournament has seen an American team intent on playing attractive soccer, and it did that once again for much of the 1st half, but a combination of pressure, circumstances, inspired opposition and fatigue made the 2nd half formula a bit heavier (but not completely) on the pragmatic ingredients as opposed to the artistic.
