Striker Fuller finds top form

Ricardo Fuller celebrates after his goal

Ricardo Fuller says Blackpool fans are finally seeing the best of him after his man of the match display in the 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
The striker scored Pool’s opening goal from a Thomas Ince corner after only six minutes and led the line superbly.
It was the 34-year-old’s fourth goal since joining the club from Charlton in the summer and the Jamaican claims it’s only now the fans are seeing the best of him.
Fuller said: “Now I need to give a performance like that every single game. My fitness is getting a lot better now.
“I didn’t have a pre-season, so I was playing and training to get my fitness up. I’ve been putting in the work and now it’s paying dividends.
“On Saturday I felt good and I’ve set a standard I need to maintain. It’s easy to get to the top but it’s hard to maintain it.”
Dan Gosling’s second-half strike sealed the victory but the afternoon will be remembered for the moment Fuller almost pulled off the goal of the decade.
Trapped in the corner with two defenders pressing, the striker used the back of his heel to flick the ball over both of them before bursting into the box.
It was a moment of real class but Fuller said he has been performing the trick since childhood.
He explained: “I’ve been doing that since I played for Jamaica U12s. On Saturday it was disappointing not to score after I’d done it. It was a nice feeling to do that in a game, especially at this level.
“Jermaine Johnson nutmegged me in the game and I said, ‘You’ve started a war you can’t win.’ So I was always going to do something to him and it was that – it’s only fair.”
Fuller revealed his goal was one he and Ince had worked on in training.
The striker made a dart to the near post and flicked a header past the keeper.
He said: “Getting across the front post is my area. I’ve been used to doing that over my career, so it was only natural I was first to the ball when it came in and fortunately it went in the back of the net.
“I just try to score as many as I can. That has always been me, so nothing’s going to change.
“I’ll take each game as it comes, create goals, score goals and do as much as I can for my team.”
