Aaaah Stoni, for this match I was hyped long before match day. I think it could be referenced later as a defining moment in my GUNNERS' season.

Arsène Wenger, Arsenal manager commenting on the match:

I was pleased with our focus tonight. We were under pressure from first minute to last but we didn’t make any mistakes and we defended well.

          -------

Considering BVB coach Jürgen Klopp had promised a "heavy metal" performance from his side, the opening quarter of an hour was fairly easy listening with most of the noise coming from the enthusiastic home crowd. Possession was evenly spread with both teams adopting a respectful, almost tentative approach.

Neven Subotić nearly upset the balance when he stabbed just wide after Ramsey had inadvertently headed a Marco Reus free-kick back across his own area on 17 minutes and subsequently Dortmund began to grasp control.

Jakub Błaszczykowski hooked another effort high and wide after good play between Kevin Grosskreutz and Reus on the right, but the best chance of the half fell to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who failed to beat Wojciech Szczęsny one-on-one after being played in by Reus.

Robert Lewandowski, hat-trick hero at the weekend against VfB Stuttgart, took his frustrations out with a powerful shot from range as the half-time whistle neared. When the second period started in a similar fashion, with Reus and Błaszczykowski each drawing saves from Szczęsny, it was clearly the Bundesliga outfit on top.

            Borussia Dortmund 0 - 1 Arsenal

Aaron Ramsey's header gave Arsenal a battling victory over Borussia Dortmund to keep Arsene Wenger's side top of Champions League Group F.
Wojciech Szczesny denied Marco Reus and Jakub Blaszczykowski as Arsenal looked to contain Dortmund in the first hour.

The Gunners scored with their first effort at goal when Ramsey forced home Mesut Ozil's cross after 62 minutes.

Ramsey almost made it 2-0 moments later and an increasingly desperate Dortmund side could not deny them a famous win.

Arsenal became the first English team to win at Dortmund's imposing Westfalenstadion home with their 14th win in 15 unbeaten away games.

That run started in March with a victory at Bayern Munich - the eventual European champions - and this result against the team Bayern beat in last season's final was just as impressive.

It wasn't just against the run of play...

Borussia Dortmund 0 Arsenal 1: This was meant to be the week the Gunners were found out. But they're top of the Premier League and setting the pace in Europe. It's time to take them seriously

It wasn't just against the run of play, but against all logic. Borussia Dortmund had been the best team on the night. Most observers make them among the finest teams in Europe. They won their previous Bundesliga game against mid-table Stuttgart 6-1. And before Ramsey's intervention after 63 minutes, Arsenal had not created a single goalscoring chance of note in the Westfalenstadion. In the immediate aftermath, however, so great was Dortmund's shock at going behind that Arsenal could have won by three or four.
