  • U20's 2001 Profiles (Pt 3)

    NAME: Damion Williams

    ALIAS: Capo

    DOB: April 23, 1981

    POSITION: Attacking Midfield

    INTERNATIONAL CAPS: Under-20

    CURRENT CLUB: Waterhouse F.C (NPL)

PREVIOUS CLUBS: Meadhaven (KASAFA Syd Bartlett (Div 2) League)

    SCHOOL BOY FOOTBALL: Norman Manley

ACHIEVEMENTS: Won Syd Bartlett League with Meadhaven in 1996/97

FAVOURITE PLAYERS: Onandi Lowe, Shavar Thomas and Bebeto (Brazil)

    FAVOURITE CLUBS: Florientina

HOBBY/ CAREER AMBITIONS: Woodwork and craft

PROFILE: Damion is a diminutive attacking player with a big heart and has been mixing it with the “big boys” in the Premier League for the past two seasons with top Kingston club, Waterhouse “Firehouse”. He scored one goal last season for Waterhouse coming off the bench and is a firm favorite of the partisan and fanatical supporters of “Firehouse”. A player with good passing skills, he has been given the all-important attacking link role in National U20 midfield. He began his football career, like many Jamaican stars, playing in the prestigious schoolboy competitions. “Capo” played two seasons for Norman Manley aiding them to the latter stages of the Manning Cup competition with ten goals in his second season.

    NAME: Dwayne Richards

    ALIAS: Boukie

    DOB: January 11, 1982

    POSITION: Forward

    INTERNATIONAL CAPS: 6 (Senior), Under-20, Under-17

    CURRENT CLUB: Hazard United (NPL)

PREVIOUS CLUBS: Shortwood United (KASAFA Major (Div 1) League)

    SCHOOL BOY FOOTBALL:

ACHIEVEMENTS: 1999 U17 Youth World Cup

FAVOURITE PLAYERS: Onandi Lowe, Tyrone Marshall and Batistuta (Arg)

    FAVOURITE CLUBS: F.C Roma

    FAVOURITE ARTIST:

PROFILE: Dwayne Richards is a skilful forward with a bag of tricks earning him the title of the new Walter ‘Pearl’ Boyd. This is not a simple accolade from local supporters who revere the Pearl, as Dwayne's spectacular displays have made him a firm crowd favourite. The diminutive forward combines this sublime skill and hard running with a propensity for the spectacular goal. He was a starter on the Jamaican Under-17 team throughout the Under-17 World Cup in New Zealand, and impressed TV analysts with his technical ability and skill. He also caught the eyes of the Newcastle United scouting team although no offer came to fruition. On the local scene, Boukie continued to impress in the KASAFA Major League, helping his club Shortwood United to the brink of promotion to the A-League. His spectacular strikes in the semi-finals caught the eye of then Technical Director Lazaroni, who drafted Boukie into the National Team and gave him several caps under his ill-fated 5-match stint in charge. Boukie is yet to score at senior international level, and although he has given creditable performances the young striker has fell down the pecking order with the return of Lowe, Boyd and Burton.

Unlike many of Jamaica’s footballers, Dwayne did not participate in any School Boy competition although he attended two traditional footballing institutions, Calabar High School and St. Andrew Technical High School. He did, however, give an early indication to his footballing career scoring eighteen goals for Duhaney Park Primary School in the Corporate Area football competition. Due to his near superstar status many pundits express the view that the sooner Boukie leaves Jamaica and ply his craft in a professional league the better it will be for the player. Dwayne is one of the young footballers whose youth football was spent in the Simoes era, and if he remains focused and disciplined he could one day grace the World Cup Stage.

    NAME: Christopher Nicholas

    ALIAS: Kemo Ras

    DOB:

    POSITION: Forward

    INTERNATIONAL CAPS: UNDER-20, Under-17

CURRENT CLUB: Tivoli Gardens F.C (NPL)

PREVIOUS CLUBS: Value P (St. Elizabeth Div 1)

SCHOOL BOY FOOTBALL: Tivoli Gardens Comprehensive High

ACHIEVEMENTS: 97/98 Premier League Championship, Ken Mathis Under-14, Minor (Youth) League

FAVOURITE PLAYERS: Theodore Whitmore, Craig Gordon, Zinadine Zidane (Fra.)

    FAVOURITE CLUBS: Manchester United

HOBBY/ CAREER AMBITIONS: Electrical Engineering and Information Technology

    FAVOURITE ARTIST: Beenie Man

PROFILE: What else can be said about Christopher Nicholas.... phenomenon, sensational, borderline genius. A fearsome looking well-built striker who plays well with his back to the goal, kicks powerfully and accurately with both feet, dribbles well, has the ability to hold up the ball and is never easily dispossessed. In effect, Chris was the complete striker with a bright future at the tender age of fifteen. His burly figure running at defenders frightened the living daylights out of schoolboy defenders as he notched up an impressive goal scoring record with three goals in his first season, nine and twelve goals respectively in his following two seasons. He was called up to the National Under-17 team and responded by simply overrunning defence. In his final two seasons in Manning Cup football for Tivoli Comprehensive High, Kemo rocketed in thirty goals. He jumped straight into the National Under-20 team and formed a formidable partnership with Ricardo Fuller and Kevin Deer. The team advanced to the final qualifying round after embarrassing the Caribbean opposition with basketball score lines 12-0, 13-0.

Chris had graduated through the youth ranks of his local club Tivoli Gardens F.C winning the Ken Mathis KASAFA Under-14 Club League and the KASAFA Under-16 Minor (Youth) League under the watchful eyes of Coach Dave Clarke. In 1998, he finally broke into the Premier League into the starting line-up, as Coach Clarkepaired him upfront with another teenage prodigy Ricardo Fuller to create a lethal strike force around which he fashioned a Premier League Championship winning side. As in schoolboy football, Chris shwed disdain for the Premier League established strikers and steam rolled his way to bagging twelve goals.

Chris Nicholas has not made the progress he could in his career so far, because he has been plagued with injuries. He lost his chance for a National Senior team call up when he broke his leg and was out of competition for a year. This meant that the promising striker had to miss the Under-17 Youth World Cup in New Zealand in 2000. No sooner had he returned from injury, he was injured again. The youngster has become frustrated with constant injuries at crucial times in his career, his latest in October 2000 while playing a Premier League match. Christopher was invited to train with the National Senior Team and played an exhibition game against St. Ann Parish XI. However, he failed to impress as he was overweight and way short of match fitness after returning from injury. Football experts rate Kemo as a player with an immense amount of potential. It is thought that if he maintains the right attitude and discipline, the future will be very bright for this player.
