  • Arsenal - Dunny: Apologies! Olivier Giroud!

I questioned Wenger (sacrilege) and I questioned you on this guys abilities as footballer. I watched that Gunners v Norwich game for the 3rd time and keyed in on him. I have never seen him really play before. Yup! He has been strong on ground and particularly in the air...good series of touch goals in the penalty-area...good running off the ball on attack...but never total TEAM. In this match the man was marvelous.

His running off the ball was at its best. He provided support in defensive areas and as per usual in attack...but he left his 'striker selfishness' at home and brought his total TEAM man game.

The type football he played was OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD. Deserving 2 assists and rather unfortunate in 'hitting the John'!

This guy can play!!!! ...TOP OF THE WORLD stuff!!!!

    Again - APOLOGIES!!!!

Kudos Karl. You do have a tendency to rush to judgment and then to hold a hard line. In this case respect. Giroud did not do anything that he has not been doing and others could see it.

Truth is he is now more relaxed having scored freely this term

      is it an heredity trait????

There is something to be said of understanding your teammates better and they trusting you more over time. It is the exceptional and not the rule for most players to start shinning after a few games with their new club.

        So you did!
        Kudos to you!!!

If I remember correctly. Giroud stayed up front save on set pieces and often tried to hold on to the ball...too often refusing to share same with TEAM and was often losing same=destroying TEAM attacks OFTEN. Most of those errors were directly related to his trying to get himself a shot at goal...when the TEAM thing would have been pass...sharing the ball.

In this game I need to have a 4th look as I cannot remember him losing the ball once...so well did he share it.

...but any way kudos to you for knowing all along he had this quality that he showed against Norwich.

Apology accepted boss!! There is still much more to come from the big man, I have followed is career closely and he has improved every single season. He was the main reason why Montpelier beat money bags PSG to the French league title a couple of seasons ago. I have had a half apology for Mertersacker and still waiting on one for Arteta!!

            Mertesacker?
The jury is still out. No coach has figured out to attack him repeated in a match with speed.

            Arteta?
...as he currently plays? A pass.

Mertersacker is soooo bad that he is the number one centre back for the second best team in the world and is heading to 100 caps.

                  Now!? Now!?
That suggestion that I have labeled Mertesacker as bad...forget your "sooooo bad" is beneath you.

You know...or at the very least should check to see...what I have said about Mertesacker in addition to calling out his lack of pace.

...no man, no need to sink to that suggestion that I ever labeled Mertesacker as 'bad'. Cho!

Think among other things I said when referencing his lack of pace was, "a disaster waiting to happen"...

has it happened yet or or we still waiting, because as far as i can see, he has not gotten any faster BUT he reads the game very well ... can that compensate for a lack of speed?

It happened at times during last season.
...and yes there are in each of us/all of us compensating factors...and agreed his reading of the game is superb and does compensate for his lack of pace.

                          Here is my fear.
Context: GUNNERS shall be challenging for trophies and need excellence just about every time we step on the field in each of the competitions for which we shall challenge for top spot.

Note: We are an attacking TEAM and very often...most often hold a "high line" during games. We are in all our games wide open to attack on the counter...and particularly so from TEAMs where there is tremendous pace at forward and midfield.
                          -
Champions League, FA Cup, Capitol One Cup
One bad game and we are out.

                          EPL
There are about 7 teams with potential to whip us if Mertesacker is isolated and attacked on pace.

My picks of those presenting greatest danger - BoyU *(8th), ManCity *(4th), Liverpool *(3rd), Spurs *(5th),
Newcastle *(10th), Villa *(13th), Chelsea *(2nd)...and as I think on it, eight - Swansea *(11th).

btw - You do notice that of our regular back 4 - Kieran Gibbs (very fast) - Per Mertesacker (slow) - Laurent Koscielny (fast) - Bacary Sagna (not as slow as Per Mertesacker) - only Gibbs has TOP OF THE WORLD speed...with Koscielny good on pace. It is down hill on Sagna to further down hill to Mertesacker.

so mertesacker is, in your opinion, our weak link defensively?

Gibbs is our weakest link. ...then 'Dead eeeks' Sagna & Mertesacker.

...and just coming from watching our being KO'ed by Borussia Dortmund. I hope my earlier disregard for any possibility of our not getting to the Champions League knock-out stage does not put a 'hex' on my GUNNERS.

The team looked slow and hesitant. ...and I could see our losing to a second Dortmund goal coming. Typical KO blow. We press. Our defenders high up the park. Swift counter by Dortmund...may I add late in the game. Pow!

Now 3 way tie on points. Group of...GUNNERS' Death?
Ramsey was awful! ...one of those days. He was slow...not impactful...set up the visitors 1st goal...bwooooy!
