  • Gunners?

Santi Carzola and Jack Wilshire holding the ball too long and have cooled offthe team.

    Gunners 2 - 0 Norwich

Swift passing...then a dribble from Carzola and my fears of his holding the ball too long and screams at my TV screen when he finally passes...two touches by Olivier Giroud inclusive of the cross...one touch, a header by Orzil - GOAL!!!

        GUNNERS 4 - 1 Norwich

        Ramsey's goal was good.
        ...so was the 4th!

There was a period when we were shaky but class told. We were able to regain composure and administer the killer blows.

Hey...Bendtner, when he came on, contributed well.

Wenger heaps praise on Wilshere's stunning goal as Arsenal cement top spot

Arsene Wenger ranked Jack Wilshere’s opener in the 4-1 win over Norwich City as one of the best he’s witnessed during his 17-year tenure at the club as his side returned to the top of the Barclays Premier League.

Wilshere completed a beautiful team goal to give Arsenal the lead on 20 minutes, before two strikes from Mesut Ozil and another from Aaron Ramsey ensured a resounding win.

In a surefire contender for goal of the season, Wilshere exchanged flicked passes with Olivier Giroud before bursting through a cluster of yellow shirted defenders to prod the ball past John Ruddy.

Stunning: Jack Wilshere finished off a fine team move to put Arsenal in front against Norwich at the Emirates

‘It was certainly one of the best and one I’ve enjoyed the most,’ Wenger said. ‘It was a team goal and it was at the speed you want your team to play at.

‘It was a mixture of technical quality and quick reactions - it was improvised. We’ve scored some good goals this season already and all four were good today.’

Wenger admitted that he wanted to give in-form Aaron Ramsey a breather but his plans were scuppered when Mathieu Flamini had to come off with concussion and double vision after a clash of heads with Alexander Tettey.

Ramsey, who scored his ninth club goal of the season with a brilliant individual goal in the second half, was heavily involved in the international break with Wales last week.

Wenger said: ‘We play seven games in 23 days and we will need everybody. He [Ramsey] has basically played every minute since the start of the season.
‘This was an opportunity before the players get injured to give them a breather. Not everybody will play all the time.’

Ramsey is likely to return to the starting XI for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund but for now Arsenal can rejoice at returning to the summit having briefly been deposed by Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Newcastle.

However, Wenger once again cautioned that talk of winning a first title since 2004 was premature.

‘It’s a bit early, it’s not even Christmas yet,’ he said. ‘We have a good attitude, we are hungry and have a good solidarity level. Our belief is strengthened by every win and there must be no comfort zone.

‘We’ve come through a long period in recent years when in October we were already behind. At the moment, we are in a better position but there’s a long way to go.’

The Observer, Saturday 19 October 2013 12.18 EDT

Arsenal swaggered back to the top of the Premier League as goals by Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and two from Mesut Özil rewarded a regal performance. Liverpool had temporarily supplanted them by drawing at Newcastle but that, like Jonny Howson's goal here for Norwich City, proved a fleeting irritant to Arsène Wenger's team, who responded with a style that few teams could rival.

Arsenal supporters had been anticipating the resumption of Premier League action after the international break even more eagerly than usual – because Santi Cazorla's recovery from injury meant he was fit enough to feature alongside Özil for the first time. The prospect of that ingenious duo conspiring to outwit opponents whetted the appetite. It seemed a pity to leave out Aaron Ramsey to accommodate the Spaniard but attacking midfield is the sector in which Arsenal are best endowed and no one could complain about Wilshere conniving with Özil and Cazorla instead – especially given what followed. The trio were a delight from the start, their movement and invention frequently nonplussing Norwich. In the sixth minute Özil scampered to the byline and then nonchalantly nudged the ball back to Wilshere, who helped it on to Cazorla. The Spaniard feinted past Howson at the edge of the area before cracking off a low drive that John Ruddy dived to save. Arsenal's trio of attacking midfielders were operating on a rarefied plain, their instinctive understanding a puzzle to the visiting defenders, who chased in vain for long periods. With Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, Olivier Giroud and both Arsenal's full-backs joining in the fun, it was only a matter of time before Arsenal opened the scoring. They did so in the 18th minute thanks to a sublime move that encapsulated their superb start. Wilshere instigated it deep in his own half before feeding Cazorla and surging forward. Cazorla scuttled down the left before a blizzard of one-twos culminated with Giroud flicking the ball on for Wilshere, who surged past stupefied defenders to volley adroitly into the net from eight yards. Goal-scoring was the area of Wilshere's came most in need of improvement before this season and that was his second in as many matches and just reward for a buccaneering display.

With Ricky van Wolfswinkel injured, Gary Hooper made his first Premier League start for Norwich since his summer arrival but the lone striker was starved of service as Arsenal dominated. Only Ruddy prevented the hosts from inflicting heavier damage in the 38th minute, when the rampaging Kieran Gibbs robbed Russell Martin and crossed for Giroud, whose first-time shot on the run was tipped around the post by the goalkeeper. Two minutes later Arsenal's other full-back ventured forward, Bacary Sagna forcing another smart save by Ruddy with a 20-yard volley.

Things looked even more ominous for Norwich when Arsenal introduced Ramsey for the injured Flamini before half-time but, in fact, it was then that the visitors finally mounted a threat. Wojciech Szczesny was put in difficulty by a series of crosses an then, in the 43rd minute, had to dive full-length to paw away a ferocious 20-yard shot by Leroy Fer.

Arsenal began the second half as they had the first and Arteta twice went close with shots from distance before Giroud headed a Sagna cross over in the 51st minute. Norwich were not dormant, however, and rumbled forward every chance they got. Szczesny had to throw himself at long shots from Robert Snodgrass and Alex Tettey – but then, on the counter-attack in the 58th minute, Ozil put the game beyond them. Given the unpredictability with which Arsenal's attackers flitted and floated all afternoon, it was fitting that the goal came from a reversal of expected roles, with Giroud crossing for the German to head into the net from eight yards. That was Wenger's cue to withdraw Cazorla to preserve him for Tuesday's Champions League showdown with Borussia Dortmund but Norwich soon reminded everyone at the Emirates that there was still work to be done here. Howson halved the deficit in the 70th minute by firing low into the net from edge of the box after Per Mertesacker failed to clear a cross from the left.

Arsenal re-asserted their authority in sumptuous style. Ruddy twice repelled rockets by Ramsey but was helpless when the Welshman tried a more artful approach, twisting and turning past three defenders in the box before slotting perfectly into the net. There was still time to Arsenal to produce another work of beauty, as Özil claimed his second goal of the afternoon by tapping into the net after a delightful cross by Tomas Rosicky and cut-back by Ramsey.

Mesut Ozil scored his first two Premier League goals as Arsenal beat Norwich 4-1 at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Ozil was included from the start after shaking off a knee problem and was twice on target against the Canaries.

Olivier Giroud set up Jack Wilshere to open the scoring on 18 minutes with a classy flick in the penalty area following an outstanding team move.

After the break, a quick Arsenal counter-attack resulted in Giroud crossing perfectly from the right for Ozil to head home past John Ruddy and open his Premier League account.
