Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas was in Barcelona on Sunday to run the rule over their reserve side.

The Portuguese took time out of the international break to watch Barca B take on Deportivo in Spain’s second division, a game the hosts lost 1-0.

The Spurs boss is looking for a striker in January - as revealed in Sportsmail's Grapevine Column on Sunday - but it is 18-year-old midfielder Sergi Samper he is paying closest attention to.

Having a look: Andre Villas-Boas is on a scouting mission at Barcelona B's game against Deportivo

Catch up: Head coach Gerardo Martino is also at the game should AVB want to discuss targets that include midfielder Sergi Samper

Villas-Boas is checking Spain Under 19 international Samper while fellow midfielder Javier Espinosa, 21, and goalkeeper Jordi Masip, 24, are others on the manager's radar.
Barcelona head coach Tata Martino is also at the game, with the pair likely to meet.

And although none of Barca's reserve side are thought to be able to step straight in to the Premier League, the scouting trip to Spain could prove useful.

Star: Gerard Deulofeu is an example of a player to have shone for Barca's reserve side

The youngsters who are deployed in the second tier are far from the finished product, but Everton's loan capture of Gerard Deulofeu is evidence that there are diamonds available.

The 19-year-old scored 27 goals in 51 starts for the B side and is widely-regarded as one for the future.

David Moyes may look to strengthen his Manchester United side with a January swoop for Chesterfield's highly-rated midfielder Tendayi Darikwa.
The 21-year-old has emerged as a target for the Barclays Premier League champions and Moyes was at the Highbury Stadium on Saturday to watch Darikwa play in Chesterfield's 1-1 draw at Fleetwood.
Should the United boss aim to follow up his interest with a January bid, it would represent a dramatic change of focus compared to his summer midfield targets.

Before the start of the season, United were knocked back by Barcelona following their interest in £30m rated Cesc Fabregas.
While a £30.5m move for Athletic Bilbao's Ander Herrera collapsed on transfer deadline day as the Red Devils tried to spend big in an attempt to defend their title.
They also tried to sign Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira.

Chesterfield midfielder Darikwa is someone whom Moyes tracked while at Everton last season and is also under the radar of Tottenham, West Ham and Fulham.
Darikwa's superb form at the start of the season has only heightened Moyes' interest in the player who is valued at £1.5m, with the Spireites top of League Two following the draw at Fleetwood.

Chesterfield's chief executive Paul Cook is aware of the interest from Premier League clubs for the 21-year-old, and admits he doesn't know how long the club can hold on to their prized asset.
Cook said: 'Tendayi is a lad we know clubs are looking at. Will someone take him soon? That's out of my hands. But certainly as a young player there will not be many better around the country.'
Tendayi is a product of the Chesterfield youth academy and has made over 50 appearances since making his debut three years ago.

Jangle, what is he Doug with zaha? I am watching the games and is curious if RvP lost his scoring touch, only for him to score 4 for his national team. Should we be concerned with Moyes' tactics?
