Joey Barton claims Sir Alex Ferguson 'couldn't put on a coaching session to save his life'.
The Queens Park Rangers midfielder said he was not trying to disrespect the former Manchester United manager and instead point out why the English national team is 's***'.
Barton said: 'We rate managers but we don't rate coaches in this country. I don't mean to disrespect Sir Alex Ferguson - he was a great manager but he couldn't put on a coaching session to save his life.

'He couldn't even put out the cones. There is a big difference between a coach and a manager.'

Hitting out: Barton did not hold back at the Leaders in Football conference

Barton was not impressed with the FA Commission which has been tasked to find out the best ways to develop English football talent.

Speaking at the Leaders in Sport summit at Stamford Bridge, he said: 'The English national team are sh*t. What's the point of this commission? It's quite a smart move if you're Greg Dyke because you've got eight other people in front of you when we fail at the next World Cup and it's a smart move from the Premier League to isolate themselves from it.

'I just don't get it. (Greg Dyke should) at least have the balls to say: "This is what I want to do and how I'm going to do it."

Spotlight: Joey Barton (right) claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson could not coach

Not a jibe: Barton says he was not trying to disrespect the former Manchester United manager

'The FA is archaic. It is completely and utterly out of its depth. It doesn't even run the major league in our country. The PL is in a massive battle, really, because they don't really care about English football. They care about the PL and the PL as a product.

'The FA's responsibility is to care about English football and English football's development but they have no power bar banning players and stuff.'
'I don't think we have great (English) players. They've won titles but it doesn't mean they're necessarily great players. They play with great foreign players.

Forthright: Barton has never been one to shy away from sharing his views

Barton continued: 'We need more English players playing football, not this Academy sh*t. It's non-football. It does not prepare you for real football when there are mortgages and livelihoods on the line. There's no devilment in it.

'You have talented kids but they're never immersed in the real world of football. I think there's a real big issue.
'I don't think we have had great players. People go on about the "Golden Generation" but I don't think we have had that because they haven't won anything.

What golden generation? Barton says that while England have had players like Frank Lampard (centre) and Steven Gerrard, they haven't won anything so can't be the 'golden generation'

'We have had good players who we have given to good coaches which have been mostly good foreign coaches who have developed our good players to become better.

'Look at Jose Mourinho with Lampard and Terry, or Rafa Benitez with Steven Gerrard. When they go to the national team they sort of get lost a bit. We are giving good players to mediocre (English) coaches.'

you expect a 70 year old man to be putting out cones???

Just maybe if Joey Barton did listen to his manager he would have been a better player and make England better.

Fergie a Legend, build world class players, who is Joey Barton again???

            No have you???

Fergie didn't start as a big coach, he started out small at a small club so I have no doubt he can run a coaching session.

How much time you see Barton spew out this kind of crap?

Fergie always encourage his players to start out small and learn the ins and out of coaching before taking management jobs.

fergie is a manager ... not a coach. he is also a strategist.

"this is what I want done, prepare the players accordingly" ... a la butch stewart and barack obama

Does that mean he can't run a coaching session? Not because he doesn't do it everyday. He started in the trenches.
