Very interesting.
'The thing is'...once the good or great players are identified then it all becomes subjective. The individual's preferences 'jump' subconsciously or deliberately into play.
I like TEAM players. You could come with a resume of scoring a zillion goals...or the greatest of shot stopper...or...if you cannot learn to play and do play TEAM eventually you will not be picked on/selected for my TEAM.
For me the world game since 1960s when I started to 'lap it up' has been moving more and more to explosive players i.e. quick acceleration, fast over ground, superb technically and greater and greater TEAM orientation. GUNNERS like play! The German's like play! Spain's like play! Brazil's like play!
If the aim is TOP OF THE WORLD then if all the players on the TEAM are not explosive - great reaction time & fast runners, superb technically and always doing what TEAM needs...
...with the thinking that actions must only be incidentally good for a member of the TEAM or a/the player...then what is the player' purpose?...use to the TEAM? If the player does not make the TEAM better what is the point of selecting that player? ...so on that basis...I think...Neville goes for Paul Scholes.
James Lee Duncan "Jamie" Carragher thinks Steven Gerrard won more games than Paul Scholes...or had the potential to do so. ...but then a TEAM is never about the player...but always about how the player makes TEAM better or level of degree the player makes TEAM better or heights to which the player can transform TEAM.
Steven Gerrard great player...
...better than Paul Scholes or Frank Lampard each also great players?
I would go for Steven Gerrard!
He lifted his TEAM on his back and dragged each player to greater heights as TEAM playing player and to fantastic 'big'=extremely important, wins. Frank Lampard for me comes in at #3.Last edited by Karl; September 16, 2013, 08:32 PM."Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. The sad truth is given the terrible task of deciding, why England was never a viable team.
While Lampard was fearful of getting shelved,Scholes was pleaded with to come out of retirement.
Scholes has won more trophies than both of them combined, and if I remember correctly,Girrard did say Suarez was the best player he has ever played with despite playing for England with a bunch of Man U players,it has to be Carra et al why Pool....
