  • ... These are real penny pinchers.

Manchester United’s deal to take Ander Herrera to Old Trafford appears to have failed.

According to respected Spanish newspaper AS, a convoy of Manchester United delegates were at the LFP, the administration offices for La Liga tonight to finalise a move believed to be in the region of £30.5 million.

Personal terms between the player and the Reds had been agreed, with a contract of around £3.3 million a year offered.

However, it has been reported in Spain the deal if off for ‘bureaucratic reasons’ with the issue believed to be over the payment of Spanish tax.

The news has also been corroborated by SKY Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague who has tweeted the breakdown of the move while the Reds are also said to have had a bid for Real Madrid's Sami Khedira rejected.

    MANCHESTER UNITED LATEST

"Confirmation from Manchester United that three men who reportedly attempted to negotiate a deal to sign Athletic Bilboa midfielder Ander Herrera were not acting on behalf of the Premier League champions and were, for want of another word, imposters.

"Reports in Spain claim three men dressed in black suits and claiming to be United "representatives" spent an hour at the La Liga offices attempting to negotiate a deal. The move collapsed at the 11th hour."

Maybe MU needs to hire these importers to deal on their behalf. The player was willing to take a pay cut. Where were the MU officials to seal this deal? This was a player that MU could use.

Lazie - I believe that fax is still the method of choice between clubs for deal submission. Unbelievable, if true.

It's the preferred method in sports, to submit contract offers, especially last minute offers. It's harder to make changes or manipulate the wording at that late stage.

Last year the Denver Broncos lost one of their top defenders because the fax was sent seconds late.

Case of hard copy paper preferred than an electronic blip pon screen.
