Real Madrid will look to sell two players before the end of the transfer window to recoup some of the £86million spent on Gareth Bale.
The new world record sum, defended on Sunday by coach Carlo Ancelotti, will spark a desperate bid to offload players such as Arsenal target Angel Di Maria and Germany star Mesut Ozil.
Ancelotti’s defence of the fee came after Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino said: ‘Bale is a good player but the numbers that are being talked about show a lack of respect for the world we live in.’

The Italian responded: ‘It was a strange thing to say. He has not been in Europe very long and he will need to learn how his own club works, paying large amounts of money for important players.’
Real’s debt is nearly £516m and buying Bale takes their spending this century close to the £860m mark. They must now do as they did in 2009, when having broken the transfer record twice for Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo and signed Karim Benzema — more than £172m in total — they sold Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder on deadline day.
Neither player desired to leave and the coach at the time, Manuel Pellegrini, wanted both players to stay but his hand was forced. Robben moved to Bayern Munich and Sneijder to Inter Milan.
Di Maria has had assurances from team-mate Ronaldo and president Florentino Perez that he will be kept on but if Arsenal meet the £26m asking price, the Argentine will be told there is no place for him at Madrid. Ozil could find himself in a similar position if Madrid find a buyer.

Ancelotti admitted he had no idea how Bale would fit into his team, where there are already four players contesting three positions. Ronaldo, new signing Isco and Ozil operate behind Benzema, leaving Di Maria on the bench.
Bale’s introduction will mean Ozil joins Di Maria on the sidelines. Madrid will also look to sell Fabio Coentrao, whom they had hoped would be part of the Bale deal.
After his presentation to supporters on Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabeu, Bale will make his debut next Sunday against Athletic Bilbao. Madrid have been given the lunchtime slot as part of La Liga’s bid to enter an Asian and Far East market dominated by the Premier League.

The player’s debut will be aired at 7pm in Beijing, at 8pm in Tokyo and Seoul, and at 4.30pm in India to maximise the global audience. Perez feels that, on behalf of Spanish football, he has pinched the pin-up boy of the Premier League; Bale’s face was used to launch BT Sport’s football coverage all summer.
Just how excited local supporters are over Bale’s arrival will be better judged after his presentation. Madrid have been careful not to put the ‘new-player’ stage on the pitch as they did in 2009 for Ronaldo, who was welcomed by 80,000 supporters.
Bale will be presented on a smaller platform by the directors’ box. He is expected to attract a crowd closer to 50,000 but fans have chanted his name at every player presentation this summer.

On the first day of business back in 2003, Real Madrid claim that they sold 8,000 David Beckham No 23 shirts.
