  • Teddy' Johnson showed stupidity

Sheffield Wednesday manager David Jones had terse words for Jamaica international Jermaine Johnson, following the midfielder's dismissal in a 2-1 loss to League One South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham on Tuesday.

After coming on as a substitute, Johnson was sent off with 12 minutes to go in the encounter, after the referee deemed the player to have headbutted an opponent. Johnson only lasted 18 minutes, as the Owls were knocked out of the Capital One Cup.

"It was just stupidity; you can't headbutt somebody. He's done it before and it's not acceptable for this football club. He's been told I can't defend it and neither can JJ," Jones told Sky Sports.

"We're trying to get back into the game, it's hard enough with 11 men, and going down to 10 makes it more difficult. He'll be punished, and rightly so because I lose him for three games."

At the New York Stadium, it was the home side that went in front when Kari Arnason's long throw was cleared to the unmarked Ben Pringle, who blasted a powerful 20-yard effort past Chris Kirkland with just 10 minutes gone.

With one of their rare ventures forward Wednesday won a free kick 30 yards out and levelled after the attempt was struck low and with precision by Rhys McCabe on 23 minutes.

But another Arnason throw-in fell to Lee Frecklington, who restored Rotherham's lead. The home side clung to their lead in the second half with Johnson sent off after 76 minutes.
