Burrel and Tappa owe me some money for my trip to JA to watch both games...Anyway, it was good to see both games in person so I can form a better view on the team. My thoughts on some of the key points discussed on the forum
Tappa:
This man is clueless and has no idea what he is doing. He doesn't plan and that’s why we have no suitable replacements when players are injured. Why weren’t we grooming a replacement leftback for Demar…knowing even Demar is not a natural left back and more midfield suited? His tactics are poor and he seems to be all over the place. His changes make no sense and you wonder at times if he is really watching the game.
Hue:
I may need to go watch replays but Hue serves no purpose in the team right now….He does not provide enough threat to make up for his weaknesses. They played him deep in the Mexico game and it didn’t work out. They played him high and it still didn’t. Hue is one of the slowest players on the field and yet I saw at times where he was left alone upfront…..can he really chase a ball over the last defender? Majority of balls hue played were to the wings, not sure if this was the instruction but this was predictable..seems he could only go to the wings and never forward…where is that through pass that he is on the pitch to provide? Where was that pass that our strikers were suppose to finish? The problem is if you play him high like against US, you didn’t have players who can bring the ball to him…Elliot and Austin are not ball handlers. IF you play him deep then he is too far to make those killer passes…that means he doesn’t play….Also, he doesn’t seem to be able to navigate out of tight situations..once he is close mark it’s over for him and at this level you won’t be allowed much time on the ball.
I know most people don’t like Jason Morrison but it is much better to have him playing that Hue..Think Gold cup and think Michael Bradley. We need someone who can collect the ball in tight spaces and pass it around..We didn’t have that in the last few games and even though we had a stacked midfield we saw the defenders blasting the ball up field many times. Morrison is one of the only players I saw able to come deep, collect the ball, and move it up field via passing
Defenders:
Why are our defenders so scared to attack the ball…they seem to be sleeping on set plays and are always so slow to react…we badly miss Nosworthy as there is no way we should be giving people free headers in the box.
Powell is maturing and improving with each game and while we are hurting from it at times I like the fact that he looks better with each game
Woodbine I’m not convinced on…he gets beat too easily and every time a player comes down his wing there is acres of space for the player to dribble and get a cross in..maybe he is being played out of position but he is one of the weakest link now
Strikers:
So we play with 5 in the middle including a so called creative midfielder who makes defense splitting passes and yet play a striker who is slow and is best with his back to goal? Does that make a lot of sense? I like what Ryan Johnson brings to the team…however, it makes no sense to play him with the rest of the midfield we have.
