  • Beckfords goal was clear offside. . .

The US should not have had to score again as they should have called back Jermaine Beckford's goal for offside. I know many will be at my throat for this, but I am including a picture to support my position.

How long have you been watching football or sports for that matter?
Sports is FULL of should haves, & it's a waste of time and energy dwelling on it. We aren't complaining, so move on & concentrate on how you are going get that win vs Honduras & get back in contention for a qualifying spot.

USAF, it is what we do on the forum, talk sports, especially about the Reggae Boyz. I did not say you were complaining about it. I am only pointing out something for my Reggae Boyz fans.

I thought Beckford had taken a very good goal, but on closer look I saw that it could or should have been ruled offside. I am entitled to make such a point about our team, especially when it is on Reggae Boyz Supporters Club site.

Hey, all I am saying, we were fortunate that the goal was not called back. Of course we need to move on.

Of course it was, but in the world of competitive sports sh^t happens sometimes...thus I wasn't complaining.

I am not really complaining. Good to see we got the benefit of the doubt this time.

I can give you two goals in my memory that the USA scored against us which were allowed to stand, although they should not have.

There was the pealty given against Jamaica at RFK in October 1997 when Pepe Goodison had a most obvious ball-to-hand incident about a yard outside the penalty box. All the American players appealed and the crazy referee was so frightened that he pointed to the penalty spot. Eric Winalder put it away to give the USA the lead.

The next as a friendly game against the USA (was it Cary, NC) back in 2006. I have never seen this in all my life where a player (Omar Daley) created a rash foul on a USA player. The referee stopped the game and was there booking Omar, when the USA restarted the game and continued bearing down on the Jamaica's goal. Ricketts who was in goal was not ready either, but saw what was coming and started to position himself. The referee now seeing what was happening quickly wrapped up his booking of Omar and started running in the direction of play now in or around the penalty box. By the time the referee was able to make about 6 steps, the USA had scored to equalize. The stupid referee allowed the goal to stand although he did not sanction play to begin. It so happened that the Jamaican players did not appeal to the referee that they US restarted the game before he had sanctioned it to begin.

So yes, the US have benefited from a few wrong calls over the years, so I am not really complaining.

Yes, clearly offside goal. So now you guys can officially stop whining about the penalty back in 1997 at RFK!

I see you have come to the realization that you got lucky on that day.

Zeppo, a missed offside call happens all the time in the sport even at the highest levels. It is not every day that you find a referee gifting a penalty as that one did on that day at RFK to give the USA a fighting chance in that game. The two situations just do not compare.

                    Not true. Watch the video:

You can clearly see and hear Donovan ask the ref if he can take the free kick. The ref OKs it (notice how he nods his head and gestures with his arm), and only then does Donovan take it.

The one you should really be upset with on this play is butterfingers Rickets for his "assist" on the goal.

It looks much different now with that little piece of footage. I still think the referee erred as he did not give the Jamaican time to get out of the discussion with him before giving the nod. THink of it, you give someone a yellow card and was there writing up the player, then you turn your head and nod to the US player to get on with play. It should have been by a whistle which would have everyone on the same page. I think he was in cahoots with the US Zeppo.
