  • Boyz fall despite Hue's class

He might not have shone like a diamond, but Jermaine Hue was clearly one of Jamaica's star player of the match despite his team going down 0-1 to Mexico in their CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Play-off at the National Stadium on Tuesday night.

The 34-year-old, the darling of local fans, has been in and more often out of the national team since making his debut in 2000, capping 41 times in 13 years with 12 goals.

The Harbour View midfield maestro has long been seen as the man to solve Jamaica's lack of creativity, and although his performance wasn't a masterclass, he was the lone soldier leading the team's charge in attack, and according to a player rating by bleacherreport.com, Hue got C+, bettered only by goalkeeper Donovan Rickets' B+.

Jamaica were toothless in attack, and on the few occasions that the home side threatened, Hue was the man pulling the strings from midfield.

Sadly, he was forced to go too deep in midfield to fetch balls from the defenders, which stymied his effectiveness higher up the pitch.

There can be no argument of the talent of this playmaker despite his age, and he showed that he belongs in this team, not for his defensive prowess, but for his vision and imagination at the attacking end. He was the go-to man and he was constantly looking for the players to run into spaces for him to deliver that well-weighted pass that he is known for.

Hue, who had a short stint with US club Kansas City Wizard in 2005, should have gained enough confidence and should again be the main man pulling the strings in the middle when the Reggae Boyz face the United States of America tomorrow night.

Not to rain pan him parade but him did provide him worst thro ball to Jevaughn when him did wide open suh him not widout blemish as most would like wi fi believe, but him provide wi di balance weh di side need. But again as a Maestro as per him monikah him need fi demand di damn ball an impose himself pan di game. Dere is one question mi like fi ask all, membah when Nana use to demand di ball an score an wi ball bout selfishness, if wi did hah Nana ya now everyting criss, goal scoring certainly would not bi ah problem. Dere goes Karl TEAM reiterations out di window. Ah dat deh mentality deh wi waan, ah doan know if wi hab a present strikah good like Nana dough.

Jamaica vs. Mexico: Score, Grades and Post-Match Reaction

Jamaica vs. Mexico: Score, Grades and Post-Match Reaction

Mexico traveled to Kingston and picked up three critical points for their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign after a 1-0 win against Jamaica.

The first half came and went with very little action. Javier Hernandez had a shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but Donovan Ricketts was there to knock it out for the corner. Aldo De Nigris also had a header opportunity, but he put it in the center of the goal, and Ricketts was able to make the save.

Despite the talent disparity, it was Jamaica who looked much better in the first half and more proactive in their strategy. Give credit to Theodore Whitmore as he was thoroughly outfoxing Jose Manuel de la Torre. Although the pitch wasn't all that big, he was managing to create space for his team and spread out Mexico.

When it came to finish off any moves, though, Jamaica lacked any teeth. Their best moves amounted to nothing.

          Interesting the various grades.
The center-backs who I think did a commendable job each was given next to lowest grade.

The left back who had just a little better game than Alvas Powell was given a higher grade than the center-backs.

Wonder what grade he would give our defensive unit as whole? mmmm? Sum of the parts...??? Lousy???

Jermaine Beckford who had a horrible time of it - broke down plays by dwelling on the ball particularly when his back was to goal. At those times there was always an outlet pass - reverse triangle apex = see figure: I> that is player(s) facing him and at least one other to his right or his left. ...on most of those occasions he lost (gave away) the ball - given the highest grade.

Never hooked up with TEAM-mates as often as should!
