Why?
We were outplayed...but had our moments. So I will not try.
OK! Mexico shared the ball more and their passing and moving/moving and passing was miles above ours. They played TEAM...TEAM...TEAM to infinity.
We played TEAM at times. Specifically - There were times we held the ball when there was no need to do so.
Spoken on the need to keep the ball moving...time and time again. Even hammered it in by saying - even when it appears there is no pressure, pass to an open man.
Why? ...why not do what we all learned from our youth i.e. "carry di ball man"..."tek im on"?!
It does not assist the TEAM on establishing rhythm...does not encourage that 'pass and move, move and pass' play that demands of the opposition 100% concentration and movement adjusting to ever changing points of attack.
Does not disrupt opponents' thoughts on attack as they are concentrating on defense. ...also allows for 'pushing the opponents around...reducing time for opponent to 'set-up' on defense.
Notice the little time we had just before Ricketts saved our beacon (...twice or was it, three times)? The ball was swiftly moved by the Mexicans and we had little time before shot came in.
...besides that establishing of rhythm/establishing possession has our TEAM %age chance of winning to go up... %age chance of not losing to go down.
A surprise to me was my expectation of Hue taking at least 5 shots never came true. Hue had an overall fair game. He should again be given another shot. ...with direct instructions to aim at taking at least 5 good shots in each of his games. ...he should also demand of McLeary to use a TEAM-mate more often as opposed to the regularity of employing that 'twisting and turning' for own shot. We do need an on field force - Why not our elder stateman, Jermaine Hue?
The 'twisting and turning' must come as the exception - 'a sudden'/a surprise to the opponents. He used it so often that he was being shut down by 2 or more opponents. The opponent could gamble on his not passing the ball/they knew he would not pass and loaded up on him/ganged up on him.
We are making TEAM but will that making of TEAM be too late. ...as far as TEAM building is concerned this was a good exercise. Unfortunately we are in a fight for our lives - World Cup qualification. Not a good time (for us) to be building TEAM. ...that building of TEAM should have been a done deal!!!
----- Yup! ...our defenders wide at back...naïve!!! Great potential...but we need them 'ready'.
In terms of results?
Terrible!
In terms of 'practice' and building team - Great!
Stop! Too many thoughts on facts of the game coursing through mind. Still rooted at the bottom of the Hex!!!
