H'View celebrate NPL title win with bubbles, musicBY IAN BURNETT Sports Editor burnetti@jamaicaobserver.com
    Monday, April 23, 2007

The champagne bottles popped and their contents spewed joyfully after champions Harbour View were presented with a replica of the Wray & Nephew National Premier League trophy at centre field after their comfortable 3-0 victory over Village United yesterday.
The 'Stars of the East', who were crowned champions last Wednesday following the 30th round of matches, re-entered the field at game's end to receive their trophy on a podium behind a Harbour View Football Club banner, accompanied by the thumping sounds of Ricardo "Bibi" Gardner's song, Move To Your Goal.

On the podium, the elated winners were presented with the trophy by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president Crenston Boxhill, Wray & Nephew's David Hobson and KSAFA president AB Stewart Stephenson.
Blue and yellow balloons, representing the colours of the famous club, were then released into the air.
An after party began immediately afterwards in the players' area.
Yesterday's game was meant to be a celebration for the community and the players didn't disappoint them.
Led by a brace from Kavin Bryan and a beauty from ace midfielder Jermaine Hue, Harbour View romped home to the win.
The visitors seemed to be in disarray, having arrived at the ground about 20 minutes prior to kick-off and forced to play in shirts that were not designed for the competition - an obvious embarrassment for the sponsors Wray & Nephew Limited in a game broadcast live on TVJ.
However, they held the home team level until the 37th minute when defender Christopher Harvey picked out Hue with a masterful 60-yard diagonal pass on the left. The midfield general, noted for his gifted left foot, changed the ball to his right and in a jiffy, unleashed a beautiful bender which nestled into the net, well out of the reach of Elvis Hart's flailing hands.
It was the first goal for Hue since his return to the club from an overseas stint, and it did justice to the pass from the back.
It got worse for Village a minute from the interval when Bryan weaved his way into the box before firing hard and low into the far corner.
And in the final minute of play, Hue set up Bryan with a neat through pass for the former Police National striker to register his league leading 14th goal of the year.
In other games yesterday, Arnett Gardens edged Seba United 3-2 at the Tony Spaulding Sports Compplex and at Frome, Reno blanked Naggo's Head 5-1.
With only two rounds remaining, Harbour View lead with 68 points, 10 ahead of Portmore United. They are followed by Reno on 56, Waterhouse and Tivoli Gardens on 49, August Town 41, Arnett Gardens 38, Village United 37, Boys' Town 36, Seba United 30, and relegated teams Wadadah 23 and Naggo's Head,18.
Teams: Harbour View - Dwayne Miller, Christopher Harvey, Clifton Waugh, Lovel Palmer, Gregory Simpson (Robert Scarlett 67th), Donald Stewart (Gregg Taylor 78th), Richard Edwards, Kemeel Wolfe (Nicholas Dodd 69th), Jermaine Hue, Fabian Taylor, Kavin Bryan.
Subs not used: M Barrett, L Thomas, K King, R Thomas

Nobody did waan listen mi. Ah tell unnu already dat Hue's right foot is better than most players' preferred foot. He should have scored last week with a good right foot shot, but made sure to kill that lie with a beauty yesterday.

Officially putting the bitterness of last season's slip-up to rest, Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) kings Harbour View celebrated wildly as they were formally crowned at the Harbour View Mini Stadium yesterday.
"We felt it the hard way last season, we were leading by 13 points and we lost, it was crushing," remarked an elated Lovel Palmer, captain of Harbour View, as they were officially presented with the League Cup following a sound 3-0 thrashing of Village United.
"However, coach Lenny (Len-worth Hyde Sr.) came on board this year, he told us it was a 'new season, new players, just enjoy yourselves' he said, 'play as if last year didn't happen, just play football'," Palmer explained.
    Tough time
Harbour View did indeed have a tough time last season as perched comfortably on top of the league, they tumbled amid much ridicule to an embarrassing second-place spot as Waterhouse caught and passed them with just a few rounds left.
"After a loss like that you have something to prove to Jamaica, I think that after such disappointment it takes a lot of character to come out and win the very next season and the guys have done well," Palmer said.
As the homesters had already lifted the title, Village must have been hoping to catch the Stars of the East in a festive mood. However, the crafty Jermaine Hue immediately showed the Trelawny team that it was business as usual.
Dribbling down the left flank, he cut inside two defenders and much to the surprise of all present, fired a right-footed cannon past Village custodian Elvis Hart in the 37th minute.
Harbour View's leading scorer, Kavin Bryan, administered even more punishment as he flew past captain Emiel Thomas in the 45th minute before blasting past Hart at the far post.
Hue, who had a splendid game in the middle of the park, then turned provider when he played Bryan into the area on the stoke of full-time and the striker made no mistake in stroking the ball past a helpless Hart. Harbour View 3Jermaine Hue 37th Kavin Bryan 45th, 90th
