Anyone who think David Moyes is not his own man will soon find out. This guy is serious as a judge, him no tek no prisoner. He is a guy i never see smile.

Not part of the Moyes brigade: Phelan and coach Steele AXED as new boss starts his Old Trafford revolution

    By Lee Bryan
    PUBLISHED:11:44, 24 May 2013| UPDATED:15:41, 24 May 2013

Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan and goalkeeper coach Eric Steele have been axed following David Moyes's backroom reshuffle at Old Trafford.

Phelan's position has been in doubt since Moyes was confirmed as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor, with the new manager keen to bring in Jimmy Lumsden, his first-team coach at Everton.

Moyes spoke with Phelan on Tuesday – 24 hours after meeting Ferguson – Steele and United first-team coach Rene Muelensteen at the club's Carrington training base.

Get out, No 2: Mike Phelan was appointed as Sir Alex Ferguson's right-hand man in September 2008

On his way: Eric Steele (foreground) has left his post as Manchester United goalkeeping coach

Moyes, who officially takes over as United manager on July 1, told the club's website: 'I would like to put on record the club's thanks for everything Mike and Eric have done.
'I will be looking to appoint my own members of coaching staff at some point in the future, however, I’d like to take this opportunity to give them both our best wishes for their future careers.'
Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward added: 'I'd like to thank Eric and Mick for the enormous contributions they have made to the success of Manchester United in their time here.

'Their professionalism, ability and diligence have been a credit to them. They are top-class football men and everyone here wishes them well for long and successful careers in the game.'

Phelan has been No 2 to Ferguson – who signed the former England midfielder for £750,000 from Norwich in 1989 – for nearly five years, having previously worked as first-team coach since 2001.

The 50-year-old is known to be keen on a managerial role and was strongly linked with the Burnley job two years ago.
Steele has been at United since 2008 following spells with Manchester City and Blackburn. He had to find a new club when Mark Hughes brought in his own goalkeeping coach at City and is now in danger of having to do the same again.

Moyes finds himself in an awkward position, having to integrate the coaches he hopes to bring with him with the existing staff who worked so successfully under Ferguson.

With Ferguson confirming that Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt will take on coaching roles at the club, Moyes has some re-organising to do and he is known to be keen to let staff know where they stand before they go on holiday in the next few weeks.

End of an era: Phelan looks on as Paul Scholes hoists aloft the Premier League title and (below) walking out of the Old Trafford tunnel for possibly the last time

"with the new manager keen to bring in Jimmy Lumsden, his first-team coach at Everton"

Really? So what about Rene Muelensteen? Based on what I've read about that coach he has been doing a decent job.

MANCHESTER UNITED head coach Rene Meulensteen WILL leave Old Trafford.

New United manager David Moyes was hoping to keep the highly-rated Dutchman, who was named first-team coach by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2007.
But it is believed Meulensteen would have had a less prominent role under Moyes and he has opted for a clean break.
A source revealed: “David was keen for Rene to stay on as he is very highly regarded within the club and by the players, who always enjoyed his training sessions.
“But Rene feels it is time to move on and give David the chance to bring his own backroom team in.
“Sir Alex’s retirement was a huge shock to Rene and he now thinks it is right to leave the club.”
Meulensteen, 49, who also managed the reserves and youth sides, is the third member of Fergie’s backroom team to depart since the Scot quit.
Assistant manager Mike Phelan and goalkeeping coach Eric Steele have also left.

Guillermo Varela has been unveiled as David Moyes' first signing as Manchester United manager.

The deal to sign the 20-year-old Uruguay Under 20 full back from Penarol was confirmed last week and he arrived in Manchester to put to pen to paper on a five-year contract on Tuesday.

                  Sportsmail told you first

Simon Jones revealed Man United's interest last month

Varela spent time on trial at Old Trafford in the final weeks of last season and did enough to convince the club to pay Penarol around £1million for his services.

'I’m very pleased to be a part of this club, one of the best teams in the world,' Varela told United's official website.

Born March 24, 1993, in Montevideo, Uruguay

Made Penarol debut in June 2011, quickly becoming a first-team regular at right back

Has made 10 appearances for Uruguay Under 20s but is yet to make his senior debut

'As everyone in the world knows, this is a huge club that has won everything and I really hope that continues.'

He added: 'I’m very lucky there are quite a few Spanish speakers here. It will certainly help me settle in.'

Varela will immediately join up with the Uruguay Under 20 squad for the upcoming FIFA Under 20 World Championship in Turkey.

Is this Moyes' first signing? This agreement was in place before Moyes. Still waiting to see who he will sign first.
