The city of Karlsruhe, Germany is known for a 22-foot high pyramid, a tribute to the city's founder.
For the past six years, Karlsruhe has been debating on what to do about its stadium, Wildpark Stadion. Wildpark Stadion, is a 1960's track stadium, capacity 30,000. The situation has shifted between renovation, section-by
section demolition and rebuilding, or building a new stadium from scratch.
Vlado Bulic, a Karlsruhe-based archictect, said he submitted plans in 2008 to City of Karlsruhe for a 45,000 seat arena enclosed in a pyramid, much of which would be covered in solar panels. The top third would have retractable panels to allow fresh air and sunshine into the building. Bulic envisions a restaurant at the top of the pyramid to allow a panoramic view of the city.
The pyramid would extend 90 meters above the ground and be sunk 10 meters into the ground.
