Ohhhh boyeeee
Dein leaves Arsenal immediately
April 19, 2007
VICE-CHAIRMAN David Dein has left Arsenal after clashing with the rest of the board.
Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood revealed Dein has exited immediately due to "irreconcilable differences".
Dein has long been one of the most powerful boardroom men in the Premiership.
He used to be the Football Association vice-chairman and is now the chairman of the G14 group - containing Europe's biggest clubs.
But Dein's fellow Arsenal board members disagree with his apparent sympathy for a possible takeover bid from billionaire Stan Kroenke.
The American businessman has bought 9.9 per cent of the club, plus more shares from major stakeholder Danny Fiszman.
But Hill-Wood has always played down takeover talk.
And the rest of the club's board, who own 45.45 per cent of the shares, have agreed to keep their shares for at least 12 months.
Hill-Wood said: "On behalf of the board I would like to express our gratitude to David Dein for the many years of loyal service he has given to the club.
"We sincerely regret that irreconcilable differences between Mr Dein and the rest of the board have necessitated a parting of the ways."
Ex-Gunners manager George Graham said: "I can't believe David Dein has gone. It's amazing news.
"I can't believe he's resigned from the board of directors. Maybe he's been pushed.
"He's been the main figurehead of the club. He's been instrumental in the club's success.
"He was the man who brought Arsene Wenger to the club."
