  • Karlsruhe Could Be Robbed Of 4 Points And First Place

    http://www.liga3-online.de/alemannia...usgeschlossen/

Daniel Gordon's Karlsruhe could be robbed of four points and first place in Liga 3 because another club, Alemannia Aachen has announced it might cease operations next week even though only five games would remain on the schedule.

If Aachen ceases operations, the German FA (DFB) will void all games played against Aachen.

Alemannia Aachen declared bankruptcy in mid season and is currently in recievership. Aachen is in dead last place with 26 points. The supervisor in charge of Aachen's recievership said he might start the bankruptcy proceedings before the season ends to save money.

Using today's Liga 3 table, Karlsruhe would lose four points (draw and 4-0 win) Arminia Bielefeld, two points behind Karlsruhe, would lose only one point (draw and loss) The table would change from a 66-64 lead for Karlsruhe to a 63-62 lead for Arminia Bielefeld.

The biggest losers would be third-place Pruessen Muenster, and Babelsburg. Both teams would lose six points from two wins against Aachen. Preussen Muenster would drop from third place and a promotion playoff against a Bundesliga 2 club to fifth place, five points away from third place.

Pruessen Muenster plays a catch up game Wednesday and hosts Karlsruhe next Saturday.

Fifth-place Heidenheim would jump from fifth to third place. Heidenheim played only one game, a draw, against Aachen. Heidenheim and fourth place Osnabruck both were scheduled to play Aachen in the next five weeks.

Bablesburg, who play Karlsruhe tomorrow, have 29 points and are one point above relegation. The loss of six points would send Bablesburg deep into the abyss.

This is a fluid situation and could change. The picture should become more clear next week.

The teams like Karlsruhe that stand to "lose" could collectively offer to assist financially to the end of the season. Is that allowed?

I guess it would be theoretically possible. Assuming the budget for the entire program would be about 5 million euros, DFB has that much money in
petty cash. I guess the number would be 400,000 to 600,000 euros.

DFB will try to convince the bankruptcy judge to allow the process to begin AFTER the season is over.

With so few games remaining, in my opinion, if Aachen ceases operations, the opponents for the games that do not get played should get 3 points for a forfeit win. The rest of the table remains the same.
