      Two overseas-based players join Young Boyz

      Two overseas-based players - Jermaine Jarrett and Yannick Salmon - have joined Jamaica's Under-17 football squad, which is in the last stages of preparations ahead of the final round of the CONCACAF FIFA Under-17 World Cup qualifying tournament and coach David Hunt believes they will make positive contributions.

      Jarrett, who joined up with the group yesterday, hails from Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut, while Salmon, who arrived on Monday, attends Westbury High School in Long Island, USA.

      "One is the former captain, Jarrett, and Yanique has toured with us... three occasions... he also played against Mexico," Hunt said during a training session at the Constant Spring Sports Complex yesterday.

      "He's (Salmon) a very good player, one who came at his own expense and he has fitted in perfectly. He's a very strong player who'll give us a lot of options as he can play in different positions," Hunt added.

      Technical director Velibor 'Bora' Milutinovic was present at yesterday's session, and after going through their technical workout with Milutinovic, coach Hunt said the players were eager to start the tournament as they expect to do their country proud.

      The squad currently comprises 26 players and although the tournament is a mere days away, Hunt is in no hurry to trim the outfit.

      "It's important to keep the 26 players because you can never tell what will happen. We have up to 48 hours to name the squad and 24 hours to replace any injured player," he said.
      Hunt also appealed to the public to turn out to support the team.

      Jamaica will host the USA, Canada, Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago for one of the three available spots.
      "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

            Please! The USA shamelessly recruit people from all over the world for every sport. It's the fastest way to get citizenship! Just have some sporting ability and yuh set!

              Easy now!

              I'm very happy for these youths. After all, I'm sure that getting the Jamaica call will turn out to be a great chance at international exposure for them. But most of all it should provide consolation after being passed over by U.S. youth teams.

                It happens both ways - some US players get passed over by our youth teams and are duly consoled when they get selected by your teams.

                  Security guidelines for Under-17 tournament


                  The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has issued a list of the security and safety guidelines which will be in place during the CONCACAF Group Under-17 qualifiers at the National Stadium from tomorrow until May 6.

                  All persons entering the National Stadium will be subject to a search. No offensive weapons, umbrellas with sharp tips, fireworks, or igloos will be allowed inside the venue.

                  Persons who fail to comply with instructions from a steward or those acting for the JFF are likely to be ejected.

                  Patrons with tickets for the Royal Box should enter at the McDonald Tunnel, that is, the central entrance on the ground floor.

                  Tickets for all matches go on sale on game days when the gates open at 3 p.m. Tickets may also be purchased at the Jamaica Football Federation head office in New Kingston.

                  Entrance fees to the grandstand are $400 for adults and $200 for high school students with identification. Schools purchasing 50 or more tickets will get a $50 discount on each ticket. The bleachers will be closed during the tournament.

                    Soloman is "Shi Shi" son. Shi is the coach formerly of Real Caribe and Queensboro Community College.
