It depends on what the coach's tactics/strategy is for the game. Demar as a defender is not in the same class as Jermain Taylor whether Demar has better "speed over ground, speed of thought or speed of feet" or not. On the other hand, if you want to play a more attacking game and would like to have your wingbacks getting into the action when we attack, then Demar would be your man.
In a situation where you have speed of the Panamanian right wingers coming at you, I would opt for Taylor or Doyle. Tylor plays good intelligent defense and does not always put himself in a position to take on people in foot races. If and when he has to, he can hold his own. Of course speed would be an asset, but when you do not have it, you make up for it with intelligent play. Who can forget the tackle Taylor did on the Mexican forward (was it Guardado?) where he ran down the player and executed a perfectly timed tackle to just get the ball out of the Mexican's reach before he could tee up his shot.

Assassin fully agree with you Demar is not in the same class with Taylor as a defensive player, he is a stop gap d player that helps with offense. Taylor is a legitimate fundamental defensive player who understands the game and on his good day can be a dominant player.Comment
