Anyone notice how during Mexican attacks deep in the half that our defense looks more like 6-3-1, with mcleary and Mcanuff on the outside of Taylor and Phillips on a number of occasions, almost every single Mexican possession deep in the Jakan half, this seemed to be absolutely necessary against the wing happy, open space attack of the Mexican offense. Without mcleary and Mcanuff sucking it up coming back time and again and shutting down the space on the far flanks what would have happened?

At times our entire X1 was back on defense.
I have started to check on Ryan Johnson's touches and passes. Finished with the 1st half...and on 2 occasions he was the one 'heading' Mexican attacks out of our Penalty-Area!
...also can remember twice Jermaine "Teddy" Johnson fouling in our half...taking or giving one for the TEAM...to disrupt Mexico's attacks (...earning a caution on one occasion)."Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

One thing I also noticed on those occasions that you say all ten were back, is at times the defense looked like one flat wall at the top of the box and wing to wing, however the midfield in front of that was wide open and the Mexicans dominated the loose balls between the 18 and the half on quite a few occasions.
Is there a way to get more of a flattened layered pyramid shape on defense that will allow more access to loose balls after repulsing the attack with the interior mids being higher up in the half to challenge for repulsed attack loose balls, that may be a weakness in tactical response to heavy pressure.

The TEAM will perform in a different manner from that in Mexico. I would just ignore the Mexico match and assign it to 'mission accomplished' as far as results go.
Style of play: Shall be revealed during our next match. So I am expecting the Panama match to be when we shall finally have an inkling of TEAM...a look at the 'real' TEAM!!!
Using the Mexico match as reference point should be...I think...only used as to:
1. composition of player group;
2. where each player may be used;
3. attitude of each player;
4. willingness of each player to give FULL 100 effort - i.e. work hard on both sides of the ball and on both attack and defense.
Passing and movement, movement and passing...full range of creativeness/creation of multiple scoring chances...shooting...other technical skills and tactical awareness...FULL display of athletic ability...will be on display for the first time in the Panama match.
...so I think this rush 'to see' the TEAM as being anywhere near that observed in Mexico is a failure to take into account what the altitude does to the body unaccustomed to operating at high altitude.
Bruce Arena on the Azteca: “You start dealing with the heat and the altitude, and it gets into your head,” Arena said. “Not only your head — the physiology is difficult.”
At high altitude, many of the American strengths — counterattacking, running hard, playing a physical style — can be compromised by fatigue.I am 100% better since seeing this first 13 minutes...
