Andre Villas-Boas will take his side to the Bahamas after receiving an invitation from the government to be the first Premier League team to play an official game there.
Tottenham has agreed to play a May friendly against the Jamaican national team in the Bahamas on May 23 at Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium in the Bahamas.
The match will commemorate the year-long celebration of the 40-year independence of the Bahamas, and it will be one of the first major events in the new 15,000-seat stadium. It would come just eight days after the UEFA Europa League final, should Spurs make it that far in the continental competition.
“We are delighted to accept an invitation from the government of the Bahamas to take part in the country’s 40th anniversary celebrations," Spurs chairmain Daniel Levy told the club's official website. "This match will see the blub support the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, as it looks to build its profile across key markets around the world as a leading destination for tourism.”
Meanwhile, the Bahamas Football Association hopes that Tottenham will be the first of many Premier League sides that look to chose the nation as a training and friendly destination.
"The Bahamas Football Association is delighted to welcome Tottenham Hotspur and the Jamaican national team to the Bahamas," said BFA president Anton Sealy. "We will be working closely with Tottenham Hotspur ahead of this match to help us develop football across the islands. We're confident that the club will enjoy its experience here and in turn attract other Premier League clubs who seek a warm and friendly place to train and prepare their squads."
Jamaica, which features a number of England-born dual nationals, is currently coming off a strong result to open the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying hexagonal, holding Mexico to a 0-0 draw at Estadio Azteca on Wednesday.
