Former champions Portmore United will have their sights set on regaining the Red Stripe Champions Cup title, when they take on Boys' Town in what promises to be an exciting final at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium.
Having already dismissed defending champions Tivoli <SPAN class=kLink style="FONT-WEIGHT: 400; COLOR: blue! important; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; POSITION: relative">Gardens</SPAN> with a dramatic last-minute strike in last week's semi-final, Portmore are now favoured to lift the crown.
However, a title-hungry Boys' Town, who are making it to their second final this season, will be no pushovers. Having already lost the Western Union Jackie Bell finals, Boys' Town's coach Andrew Price and his team are looking to make amends.
"I think it's quite an achievement to make it to two finals this season, we already lost one so we need to make amends by winning this one," Price explained.
niggling injuries
According to Price, apart from niggling injuries to front men George Vernal and Denzil Watson, who are expected to be passed fit today, the boys from Collie Smith Drive are raring and ready to go.
"It will be very important to us because this will be our last opportunity to win any silverware at all this season," Price added.
Portmore, who last won the all-island knockout competition in 2004, have already beaten Boys' in league play twice this season. Trailing league leaders Harbour View by six points, Portmore will also be keen on snatching their first and perhaps only bit of <SPAN class=kLink style="FONT-WEIGHT: 400; COLOR: blue! important; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; POSITION: relative">silverware</SPAN> this season.
"Silverware is silverware but this one is especially important to us," explained Portmore general manager, Clive Marshall.
"We have been to three finals in three years, we were disappointed that we lost it last year after being comfortably ahead, and we would love to have it back," he said.
However, the St. Catherine team has injury concerns of their own, with leading scorer Onandi Lowe going off in Wednesdays game against Harbour View with a foot injury. He, along with midfielder Mario Swaby and defender Ryan Powell, is expected to be assessed today in order to <A class=kLink oncontextmenu="return false;" id=KonaLink2 onmouseover=adlinkMouseOver(event,this,2); style="POSITION: static; TEXT-DECORATION: underline! important" onclick=adlinkMouseClick(event,this,2); onmouseout=adlinkMouseOut(event,this,2); href="http://www.jamaica-star.com/thestar/20070407/spo
