Herforder Brewery of Osnabruck ran a promotion to donate 1 euro for every case of beer sold this week towards operating Osnabruck's underground field heating system which costs 1,000 euros a day to operate. With a few hours remaining in the promotion, over 4,200 cases of beer have been sold, just short of the goal of 5,000.
The management of the financially struggling VFL Osnabruck club shut down the heating system during the winter break to save money. However, faced with possible penalties, including a forfeit, from the German FA, the system was turned on Monday. The field should be ready for play tomorrow.
