  • Big Football Game On Ice?

    http://www.ka-news.de/fussball/ksc/k...rt7581,1055623

Karlsruhe's big game next weekend at VFL Osnabruck is in danger of being cancelled due to a frozen field.

VFL Osnabruck, which is in dire financial straits, has turned off the field heating system in its stadium during the winter break to save money. The heating system reportedly costs 1,000 euros a day to operate.

Also, Karlsruhe fans have already purchased tickets to the game and train tickets for the 230-mile trip north.

If the game is cancelled, Karlsruhe SC may appeal to the German FA (DFB) to claim a forfeit win because DFB rules require clubs do everything reasonably possible to maintain a safe playing surface.

Osnabruck leads Liga 3 with 47 points. Karlsruhe, on a nine-match winning streak, is tied for second with 43 but ahead on goal difference . The following weekend, Karlsruhe hosts fifth-place Arminia Bielefeld with 39 points.

So how long does the system take to thaw the field? Depends on temperature?

From what I have heard, with temperatures about 0 degrees Celsius, it would take 5 to 7 days.

A local brewery in Osnabruck has launched a promotion that for every case of beer sold, it would donate 1 euro towards turning on the heating system. At 12 noon US Central time, the donations stood at 4,840 euros.

I may have misread the translation. Hereforder beer could be trying to sell 5,000 case of beer and the number has been going down. Today it is 4,300.

UPDATE: Hereford Brewery has sold 2600 cases of beer, more than half of their goal. VFL Osnabruck announced on their website that tickets are on sale, and are looking for volunteers to clear snow from the stands. (Their stadium holds 14,000 people. The field has been cleared of snow, and no snow is expected between today and Saturday.
