  • Wenger Ready To ‘Spend Big’ And Sign Two New Players This

With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news. Today, Arsene Wenger on his January transfer plans.

Some interesting comments coming from Arsene Wenger today Gooners, with the boss claiming he’s ready to ‘spend big’ and sign two new faces this month, according to Sky Sports News.

Wenger has come under intense, and largely justified, criticism in recent years for a lack of spending in the transfer windows. We’ve seen several key men sold and replaced by cheaper and inferior players while the club banks big profits every year, so it’s understandable why many supporters feel aggrieved, especially since we pay some of the highest ticket prices in Europe.

However, while many may be disappointed by the clubs ambitions in the transfer market, there can be no denying that Wenger has performed miracles to keep Arsenal in the top-four and playing Champions League football every year while the club built a new 60,000 all-seater stadium. The process of moving from Highbury to the Emirates has understandably placed some financial restrictions on the club.

But Arsene has been speaking to Al Jazeera Sport and claims those restrictions are now at an end and we can now compete in the transfer market and he’s prepared to spend big to land two new players this month:

“My plan is to keep all of the players we have and then to add maybe, if possible, two new players to the squad,”

“We will spend big (again) because we had restricted finances because we had built the stadium and had to pay that back.

“You look at any club who has done that, and they have gone down (in performance).

“We stayed at the top level, yes without winning the Premier League, but we were always at the top level.

“Now we have come out in a much stronger position financially again, so we can spend.

“But our way is a bit like Barcelona as well, to produce the core of the team from inside and add from outside the players who give really a plus.”

“The biggest challenge so far is to convince people we have a good team, that we have good quality and that we lead the club in the right way, because many people doubt that.

“I am convinced this team has a fantastic mentality, fantastic quality and with the right level of confidence, if we can create the momentum, we can be a positive surprise until the end of the season.”

Wenger is quoted as saying by Sky Sports
It’s great news…..if true. But sadly the boss is at a point where many fans no longer trust the words that come out his mouth. Nobody will be happier than me if Wenger goes out and spends £30m-£40m+ on two world class players before the window closes, but who really believes he will?

Actions speak louder than words and NOW is the time for action, Arsene. Spend big and deliver a couple of proven top quality players and you’ll soon find a more positive mood around the Emirates. But from experience, I certainly wont be surprised if we fail to bring in new recruits with Wenger claiming he couldn’t find the ‘top, top, top’ quality players he was looking for.

Let’s see if there are any developments in the coming days but if he is going to sign new players, we really need to get them in quickly as we’ve got a packed schedule ahead.

Dunny please explain the nuances of 'trades' in the EPL and how our GUNNERS 'deal'?

...as I am in a funk thinking on my GUNNERS being 'keen' on a player but not on making an offer for that player? ...I hope it is not something like a Maudib telling of Golding's master strategy to have the Jamaica voters sweep him to power?

Karl, Arsene Wenger is a poker player in the transfer window, he bluffs and bluffs and doesn't shows his hand until the last minute. He knows Zaha is an Arsenal fan so is willing to wait on others to make the first move. Cavani is a top striker, however in my opinion Wenger will never sign a player for 40 million pounds. If you check all the major clubs in Europe you would see that Arsenal under Arsene is less likely to spend big money on players, that is just not his style. 15 million is still the record for Arsenal, that is unthinkable in this day and age. I expect Arsenal to sign probably 2 players in this window, Zaha plus another, however i don't think it will happen until the last few hours of the transfer window.

I hope he gets Zaha. From the little I have seen it looks as if he could be an immediate *'impactful' first team addition.

*As far as I know no such word but you get my 'drift'.
