  • Counting the passes

In a move reminiscent of Argentina's wonderful passing goal during the 2006 World Cup, AO Giannina, a team of Greek children, pull off an amazing team goal straight from kick-off. http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/vide...ren-goal-video

        2 things here:

        1. Even thouhg the pitch wasn't top class, it's better than most in Jamaica. This allows the ball to run somewhat true.

        2. The concept of making the simple passes and not over-dribbling is taught early. Make the ball do the work. Jamaican kid ---- from the ball kick off, the receiver would want to "bruk" at least 2 or 3 opponents before even thinking about releasing the ball.
Hey .. look at the bright side .... at least you're not a Liverpool fan! - Lazie 2/24/10 Paul Marin -19 is one thing, 20 is a whole other matter. It gets even worse if they win the UCL. *groan*. 05/18/2011.MU fans naah cough, but all a unuh a vomit?-Lazie 1/11/2015

Ball never left the ground...if it was Jamaica they would be playing volleyball...

But the keeper did well... kept his cool after being put under pressure...but yes, he almost lost it... It looks like almost every player had a touch. You still have to like how they moved that ball and made it look easy.

yes i like how they moved the ball and the confidence they had in each other to play it back to the defence and the keeper in order to build the play .... that was one of the most impressive things to me.

Jangle, I agree that this is the case, unfortunately, there is also a problem that young players like these boys will face when they get a little older and go to a tryout. Unfortunately, they will get NOWHERE if the selection coaches had never seen them before.

The unfortunate reality about team selection in limited tryouts is that the only way you are going to stand out is if you play exactly the "wrong" way...i.e. hold on to the ball, show that you can "bruck", and show that you can "do more of the work" that the ball (of course, all within reason and of course tackling, running off the ball etc. notwithstanding).

My daughter tried out for a team that she made last year amongst about 50 girls (18 selected). I made sure she wore a BRIGHT RED shirt, her BRIGHT BLUE FULL90 head gear (highly recommended by the way), RED shorts and YELLOW socks...she looked like the 4th of July but it did the trick...she stood out amongst all the other girls, most of whom were wearing subdued colors. She was getting frustrated because she was giving the ball to other girls but not getting it back. Some of the girls that did not make the team (but should have) were from her old club where they played the ball on the ground, passed and moved etc., but they were like fish out of water.

I am only saying that there is a different tactic that kids have to learn when they are trying to showcase their skills vs. playing in a competitive game.

Developing that ability to bruk, and having the ability to individually bruk a player, when the bruks are required is as gooder quality to have imo as a team able to pass a ball around to retain possession. The trick is knowing when to bruk, and when to pass.

That is part of what I was trying to say as well.

                        Absolutely wonderfull!

...but even if they cannot do that repeatedly why cannot our kids be taught the same TEAM concept...and in our prep, primary, high schools, colleges, clubs, Parish FA CONFED and national teams?

Needed TEACHERS! Our talented kids are waiting to be taught!

I counted 5 times (inc goal keeper) where a player took more than two touches of the ball before passing it. Says something about ability of those yoots to control a ball instantly before moving it on. Limited touch football & 5 a side matches seems evident there.
