Jamaican coach sacked

Jamaican-born Robin Fraser has been fired by Chivas USA after two losing seasons as head coach of the Major League Soccer (MLS) club.
Fraser, a former United States international defender, who once tried out for national youth teams in Jamaica and also played a decade in North America's top professional football league, compiled a record of 15 wins, 32 losses and 21 draws in two MLS campaigns as coach.
The Goats failed to make the play-offs in either season. In 2012, California-based Chivas USA finished with seven wins, 18 losses and nine draws, the poorest record in MLS Western Conference and second worst in MLS overall.
Fraser was fired on November 9. His staff members, including assistant coach Greg Vanney, technical director and head scout Simon Elliott, and athletic trainer Brian Lee, were also let go by Chivas USA.
Prior to being named Chivas USA head coach on January 4, 2011, Fraser, 45, spent four seasons as an assistant with Real Salt Lake, where he worked with former Reggae Boy Andy Williams, now an assistant coach and scout at that MLS club. Williams credited Fraser for helping him improve his work ethic and boosting his confidence, which led to consistent productive performances towards to the end of the midfielder's MLS playing career.
Fraser's dismissal came as no surprise. In January, following the club's poor showing in 2011, he said he was fully aware of possible dire consequences should Chivas USA stumble again in 2012.
"It's the nature of this business," Fraser said while attending the MLS Combine in Florida, where he scouted several Jamaican players, including Vancouver Whitecaps rookie star Darren Mattocks. "Your job is to win games."
Although the club advanced to the semi-finals of the 2012 US Open Cup, a knockout competition similar to the FA Cup in England, Chivas USA failed to win any of their last 14 MLS matches.
The respect earned by Fraser throughout MLS for making the team competitive, notwithstanding, Chivas USA were expected to make major changes after new ownership acquired the club in late August.
During his MLS career, Fraser played for the Colorado Rapids, Los Angeles Galaxy and Columbus Crew. He earned 27 caps for the US.
