2016 Copa America to be played in United States

South American soccer governing body CONMEBOL will hold a special Copa America tournament in 2016 in the United States to commemorate the organization’s 100th year.

CONMEBOL said at a meeting of its executive committee in the Argentine capital Wednesday that the tournament would include the 10 South American confederation teams, plus the United States, Mexico and four others from the CONCACAF region, which comprises North and Central America and the Caribbean.

One of the major problem with the US now is how many top league team (MLS) can we have. and when you have tournament like the Gold Cup is how many venues can you use.

Soccer currently have more tv coverage than Hockey and stadium seats than B-Ball.

That would be great for developing our quality of play...and it would be great for us fans.

U.S. Soccer and Concacaf pushes back, Conmebol backtracks

A day after Conmebol, the South American soccer confederation, announced plans for a 16-team Copa America to celebrate the tournament's 100th anniversary and to be played in the United States in 2016, U.S. Soccer and Concacaf officials pushed back, saying discussions were ongoing but no agreement had been finalized. As a result, Conmebol has removed reference to the tournament from its web site.

"While the idea of a Centennial tournament with some of the best teams in the hemisphere is certainly intriguing," U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati said in a statement, "it is not something we have agreed to host or participate in at this time. As Concacaf stated, there are still a number of discussions that need to take place with Conmebol. U.S. Soccer would also need to be involved in discussions about hosting the tournament. We’re looking forward to those discussions in the near future."

Hope it materializes. With some of the best facilities in the world for soccer, extremely passionate fans from all over the Americas, and the USA's ability and track record in organizing big events, there should hardly be any reason against the USA hosting such an important tournament. Should be good for fans all over the world.
