..... 14 years after qualifying for the World Cup... Hmmmm let's see our 'development' model at werk..
1. Start with the notion that local players have poor/no potential for developing into quality performers... aka the good ole foreign mind ting. This despite decisive evidence to the contrary in 1998 qualifying
2. Since they have no potential ....pay lip service to them early in the WC qualifying cycle with little quality, consistent exposure to high level play & coaching.... thus creating the self-fulfilling prophecy that they're no good
3. When things get critical...Declare a Player Emergency.... then....Start begging journeymen playing in England to represent Jamaica (granted a few are committed warriors who are self motivated ala Burton, Hall & Simpson of yore)....the majority are calculating mercenaries
4. Squirm while these opportunistic Convenient Jamaicans make a mockery of the country in deciding whether we're good enough for them as they weigh other avenues to play in the WC or sniff out their club prospects
5. Many get excited bellowing names of their latest favoured English contenders.... as this mercenary cohort waits to see which way the qualifying winds blow for Jamaica...after all they're too important to waste their time with preliminary rounds
6. Maybe a few of them take the late plunge...and maybe they even assist in the qualifying campaign...who knows?
At this rate we'll never develop the players at home...nor a quality team nor philosophy
We'll be stuck watching sequels to this foreign B Movie into infinity
What a shame
