FACT: Marlon King has produced for the 'Boyz (20 games - 12 goals), has a wealth of experience to offer and is still producing for his club (9 games - 4 goals), so it's safe to say he can still make a meaningfull contribution to the 'Boyz.
FACT: Marlon King has a behavioral problem, and it's obvious that desciplinary action alone is not having the desired effect.
Some people will step up when they are entrusted with a leadership role and given the responsiblity and tools to lead and help guide others, because when this is done they realize that what they do and say directly affects others who are looking to them for leadership and guidance.
Now, what I think Whitmore should do is have a one on one talk with King and let him know what he expects of him, not only as a player who can score goals but as someone who can help lead and guide his fellow teammates, especially the younger and less experienced ones, and effectively help to execute the team's game plan. Also show him what playing in the World Cup and scoring in that competition can do for his stature in the game, especially when this is his last opportunity to do so.
